How we operationalize our commitment to diversity:

Actively reaching out to performance groups and individual performers from marginalized communities rather than relying on expressions of interest to book performers. Acknowledging that it takes time and consistent effort to build trust amongst marginalized performers as a producer,

and being open and willing to have ongoing conversations about how to improve practices to build that trust. Building a cast encompassing a range of identities and backgrounds, both visible and invisible, unless explicitly focusing on an event that celebrates and showcases one specific group or community. We will not book thin, cis-het, able-bodied, NT white performers (with the exception of those with s*x work involvement or living in poverty). to sign a code of conduct agreement that includes the potential forfeiture of pay and performance time if violated and steps for addressing harm caused. Ongoing anti-racism and anti-discrimination education and training on the part of the producer. Working to reduce hierarchical structures associated with capitalism by providing financial transparency and profit sharing for our performers, as well as a community-based approach to communication with those involved in an event. Seeking out accessible performance spaces and accommodations in the event of lack of accessibility, including livestream options for shows, while advocating for more accessible venues at a city-wide level. Individual commitment from the producer to acknowledge any harmful acts or microaggressions they become aware that they have committed, educating themselves, and making amends and repairing harm as requested by the individual(s) harmed. LOTUS BOY (Ze/Zir & He/Him, They/Them is ok) is a shapeshifting, transgender, unapologetically disabled - neurodivergent - and chronically illUSTRIOUS Chinese-American drag king based in occupied Lisjan Ohlone Land (aka Oakland, CA). As an antidisciplinary artist, ze explores gender fluidity, accessibility, joy, and healing from trauma through whichever medium speaks to zir spirit—including spoken word poetry, lipsync, ancestral movement (qigong and tai chi), monologue, and original music. With every performance, he aims to help the audience learn—or unlearn—something about themselves and the world around them. In 2023, LOTUS BOY won the 27th Annual San Francisco Drag King Contest. LOTUS BOY is on the Board of Directors for Oaklash, the Bay Area's drag festival, and the SPM Disability Justice Fund, which funds disability justice projects led by BIPOC.
