IN LOVING MEMORY OF GARRY
With deep sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Garry, a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, on March 24th.
Born in Wingham, and raised in Brussels, Ontario, Garry attended the University of Western Ontario to obtain an undergraduate degree in Economics. He then completed his MBA at Laurier University. He moved to Richmond, British Columbia, in his late 20’s and made the community of Steveston his home for the past two decades.
Garry will be remembered for his boundless generosity, compassionate spirit, and infectious sense of humor. His love for his children was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in being a father to Lucas and Alex.
Garry was a long-time instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where he dedicated himself to guiding and supporting students studying accounting. He taught many over the years and was known for always being approachable and willing to help.
A passionate supporter of live comedy, and the owner of Yuk Yuk’s comedy clubs, Garry dedicated himself to uplifting comedians and nurturing the comedy community even during the turbulent years of COVID. His commitment to fostering talent and creating a welcoming space for performers was unparalleled.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice, and his children, Lucas and Alex, who were the greatest joys of his life. Garry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Garry’s life will be held on Sunday, June 1st, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Steveston Hub (3551 Moncton St, Richmond, BC – second floor). All are welcome to join in honoring his memory and sharing in the laughter he so freely gave.
