A Curiosity in the making. ✂️🧵

Thank you for all the love you’ve shown my Curiosities. I’m a little behind on updating my website and social media — and honestly, that’s a good problem to have. 🤍

I’ve been caught up in layers of collected trims, colour, texture and tiny details — slowly finding their place.

These clutches are my own take on wearable art, and your appreciation for them only makes me want to go further with each one.

So, while I catch up with the website, I am taking commissions.

Discover the versatility of fibres with Amna Nawab. The play of textures, threads and fabrics takes you into a zone to create one off pieces that are more of a personal statement. With hand embroidery as the predominant medium, discover the magic of colour and storytelling through a play of fibre using your own hands. You don’t need to know embroidery to be able to join. This workshop aims at teaching basic stitches and slowly building up your piece by adding layers of mediums that could be embellishments. It will also demonstrate methods on dissecting complex embroidery pieces by modifying basic embroidery stitches. A supply list will be provided before the start of the first class.

Note to myself | Confessions of a Fibre Artist
9 years ago, I arrived in Canada today with nothing but my children for our life safety. With uncertainty peaking to a high, each day brought with it a crash and collapse of everything I loved. I was loyal to all who were my own but every single institution that I believed was home, disappeared on me. I was reminded of bad choices and questioned why I had not spoken earlier. I was asked why I had 4 children? Why did I think anyone should believe me?Words failed me.. each night my mind would wonder if loyalty was a blessing or a curse. The humans in my world met me with an “Avoidance” behaviour and soon that was the new life normal.

My mind questioned who I was? wife? Daughter in law? divorcé? fired employee? daughter? mother? sister? friend? A part of me wondered if any of these titles even mattered?

My heart felt jabs when I heard stories about me that were false, relayed by people who I trusted and loved with all my heart. I experienced how someone’s misery became entertainment for the world…

The isolation became louder with every passing day, until my own plea to standup for myself choked me. I began writing to God, words never came but I knew I was alive and life had more in store for me, I just couldn’t see it yet.

And then an old friend “threads and colour” were sent to me by the Almighty. A new relationship with my hands and threads took off on a journey that worked as a balm to the pain that never ceased to hurt. Seeing people who I once loved move on baffled my tired mind. Threads because closer than ever. I created without a plan and it was chaos. The distraught in me found a soft release. It was the only place that accepted me as I was.. wounded, broken but still holding up.
