Well I think I’ll finally share some photos from my trip to Greenland with Leslie Kachena McCue back in August!
We started off with a train ride to Ottawa on the Via Rail. Got on a plane to Montreal (Leslie did at least, my route was a little hectic 😂) Then a second plane took us to Iceland, a third plane to Nuuk, Greenland, and then a two hour boat ride to Qooqqut!
Leslie invited me to perform with her at Qooqqut Festival demonstrating our dance styles, Traditional and Jingle. When we arrived in Nuuk we found out that my luggage didn’t make it to Greenland so i didn’t have my regalia with me. Also, another performer and good friend of Leslie didn’t make it onto the first plane due to his passport expiring in 3 months (apparently Denmark wont let you into Greenland if your passport expires in less than 6 months 🙃) sooo what was supposed to be a performance featuring three dance styles, turned into Leslie having to do the full performance alone 🥹 but she killed it like always and everything turned out amazing! And during the second days performance i got to teach the crowd how to do the side step! That was so much fun.
This was also my first time travelling by plane 😳 I have anxiety and panic disorder that im medicated for but i was a little nervous about the plane, especially since i had to take the first two plane rides alone 🫣 After a bit of tears and questioning what i got myself into i pulled it together and got on that plane 😤😂 And im so glad i did because we had so much fun! It was an unforgettable experience and im so grateful to Leslie Kachena McCue for inviting me. There were ups and downs but for my first big trip like this we did good 🤣
Chi miigwech Leslie for being such a supportive, kind, patient and strong cousin!! 💖 Always looking out for me and reminding me that i got this 💪 and chi miigwech for bringing me with you on this journey to Greenland 🇬🇱
We met some really kind people, everybody was so friendly and inviting. Id definitely go back 💕
