Ian Willms’ “The Hound” continues at the gallery until May 30th. Comprised of images captured over a period of 7 years travelling across North America via Greyhound Bus - the exhibition explores landscape, class, migration, alongside ceaseless journeys and convergences of fate.

The images and the project more generally draw upon a rich photographic tradition- from Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans work during the FSA to William Eggleston’s poetic images of the American south - Willms photographs paint a complicated and deeply human portrait.

Ian Willms exhibition “The Hound” is comprised of photographs made over the course of 6 years spent riding Greyhound buses all over North America.

In his text about the series, Willms reflects on the complicated legacy of the bus line writing

“What began as a shuttle service for Minnesota iron miners has grown into the circulatory system of working class America. A trope of freedom, a legacy of racial segregation, union busting, and a picket line killing all made the Hound into a flawed icon of underclass struggle, exuding a strangled, sad magic. Riding to find work, escape the past, reconnect, or find love, strangers’ stories crisscrossed a continental web of concrete and dirt…”

The exhibition continues until May 30.

Please join us for Ian Willms solo exhibition “The Hound”, opening at the gallery tonight from 6–8pm.

Comprised of photographs made over the course of 6 years spent riding Greyhound buses all over North America, the images trace the landscapes and faces of a ceaseless journey – spanning tragic beauty, chance encounters, and convergences of fate.
