We talk a LOT about the fun parts of Carnival — the costumes, the music, the freedom, the energy, the road.

But what happens when you ask masqueraders what isn’t working?

I wanted to dig into the things that can take away from the Carnival experience — the frustrations, the little things that add up, and the bigger issues that can change how someone feels about playing Mas.

Because loving Carnival doesn’t mean we have to pretend every part of the experience is perfect.

These responses give us a chance to look beyond the pretty pictures and actually talk about what masqueraders experience on the road.

Because Carnival is more than what you see on the road.

Turns out… sometimes you really should just follow the recipe.

I didn’t follow the instructions on the back of these festivals. I decided to fry them in half water, half oil, thinking I could do it my way.

And what did that get me? MORE WORK.

They took longer, and I still had to broil them just to get them crispy and brown. They came out decent, but I should’ve just followed the recipe.

And that’s exactly what I realized about the Masquerader Survey.

I was trying to figure out the best way to break down and deliver the responses as I received them, but I realized that I was making the process more complicated than it needed to be.

So I’m going back to the bigger picture.

Instead of continuing to release individual survey findings, I’ll be moving forward with a general census of the full dataset, looking at the overall patterns and what the responses collectively tell us.

Same lesson. Different kitchen.

Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the recipe. You just need to let the whole thing cook.

God’s timing, not ours

Quitting is so easy.
But I didn’t build a Masquerader survey last year, before creating this social media account, to quit now.

I came to ask questions like
1. What happened to Toronto’s Masquerader Association? What did that actually do for Masqueraders?
2. Why, year after year, are sections/bands coming back after failing Masqueraders?
3. Why are there no standards when it comes to delivering a full experience?

From the very top of this season, the costume color had become the least of my worries. It’s cemented the need for me to feel secure in the ex*****on and quality of a section.

I’m excited for band launches this year as I’m entering my 4th year - this time solely as a Masquerader.

0 expectations for every band for the 60th year, let’s see if they can bring it.

Part 2 of my Fenty Beauty experience and this is where things got even better 👀

After a purchase was made, I got to pick and choose from their selection of free gifts with purchase, and I was definitely taking my time choosing 😂

I grabbed the Fenty makeup bag, under eye patches, blurring skin tint, compact mirror and mascara. And that mascara was VERY necessary because I had literally just run out.

I didn’t try it that day because I had already tried the mascara in

ANTM taught me to not use a mirror. IYKYK. 😂

I forgot what it felt like to actually feel good in makeup.

Lately, I’ve become really uncomfortable with makeup. Not because I don’t love it, but because somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like myself wearing it.

And finding my shade has ALWAYS been a struggle. I’m usually choosing between my summer shade and my winter shade, hoping one of them will actually look like my skin.

So I went to Fenty Beauty for the Shade Match Up and ended up having an experience I genuinely appreciated.

My Beauty Advisor walked me through the new Pro Filt’r Foundation, explained the products she was using, why she chose them and how to actually use them. I wasn’t just getting matched. I was learning.
