Wall Fiction

Wall Fiction Wall Fiction is an online art gallery featuring contemporary and historical fine art on consignment from the secondary market.

View online or in person by appointment. Wall Fiction sells fine art on consignment. Wall Fiction is a second market separate from that of auction houses and specialized galleries. We look for contemporary art by reputable mid-career artists known for creating quality work and historical works by established artists. We provide an online art experience for both new and seasoned collectors. For the new collector, we offer an unpretentious and affordable entrance into art collection. By learning and browsing “curated” contemporary art online without the pressure of feeling like you need to say right things, you can start building a collection at your leisure. We’ve done the preliminary work for you. For the seasoned collector, we provide an opportunity for both buying and selling. If after years of collecting, learning and reshaping preferences and tastes, you want to change, we sell on consignment work from collectors, estates or down-sizing that galleries operating in the primary market aren’t concerned with and art that doesn’t match the narrowly defined criteria of auction houses. Every piece of art comes with a story. We make every attempt to investigate provenance – the history of ownership of the work – as well as the interesting stories they tell – be it a story about the artist, the subject matter or how Wall Fiction came to it. The word fiction was created late in the 14th century as something invented and was derived from the Latin word fictiō – a fashioning – and the word fingere – something to form out of clay. To us, art is fiction – something created by an artist’s hand and imagination, hence our name: Wall Fiction. In addition to the stories associated with each piece, we also believe that original art sparks ideas and conversation with those who own and display them and therefore has the ability to create new stories. So, whatever the story, truth be told, we take art seriously and the information we gather on each piece is as accurate as we can find. We are art professionals who bring you the experience and training expected in dealing with fine art. We feature work that we believe will not only maintain its appeal but also its value. Great art collections are made of stories lived and shared. Wall Fiction's office is located in Toronto, Canada.

ART WITH A STORY | MEET PAUL KELLY

What happens when an artist spends more than 50 years exploring colour?

You get a body of work that never stops evolving.

Canadian artist Paul Kelly has spent his career as a designer, painter and educator moving from atmospheric Canadian landscapes and the human figure toward the bold, energetic abstractions that characterize his mature work.

But there has always been one constant: Colour.

Kelly doesn't simply use colour to describe something. He explores what colour itself can do: how colours interact, create movement, establish balance and completely change the way we experience a painting.

His background in graphic design brings structure and precision to the work, while decades spent painting give it energy, texture and spontaneity.

Wall Fiction is thrilled to feature several works from this later period of Kelly's career, including Prelude (2019) and Exuberant (2022).

And while there is plenty to discover about the artist and his remarkable career, you don't need an art history degree to enjoy them.

Sometimes choosing art really can be this simple:
Does it make you stop?
Does it make you feel something?
Would you love seeing it on your wall every day?
If the answer is yes, that's a pretty good place to start.

Discover Paul Kelly at Wall Fiction.

SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL IS COMING TO WALL FICTION…

Not one.
Not two.
But three David Blackwood prints.
And together, they tell an incredible story.

Coming soon:

🖼️ Molly Glover on Bragg's Island — 1997
🖼️ Gull Rock Breaking — 2001
🖼️ Granda Glover's Place on Bragg's Island — 2002

If you've been following our Meet the Artist series, you'll know that David Blackwood wasn't simply a printmaker.

He was a storyteller.

And two of these works take us directly into his own family story.
Bragg's Island in Newfoundland's Bonavista Bay was home to Blackwood's maternal grandparents and a place that became deeply connected to his childhood memories.

The Molly in Molly Glover on Bragg's Island?
That's David Blackwood's mother.
And the “Granda Glover” behind Granda Glover's Place on Bragg's Island?
His maternal grandfather.
Then there is Gull Rock Breaking where the artist brings us back to the sea and rugged Newfoundland landscape that appear again and again throughout Blackwood's extraordinary body of work.

Three prints.
Three stories.
And three opportunities to own a piece of David Blackwood's remarkable visual history.

We can't wait to show them to you.

COMING SOON TO WALL FICTION.

Discover the story. Collect what you love.

BEFORE PHOTOSHOP, THERE WAS JERRY UELSMANN. 📷

Seriously.

Take a look at a Jerry Uelsmann photograph and it's easy to assume you're looking at digital manipulation.

You're not.

Jerry N. Uelsmann (1934–2022) was creating extraordinary surreal photographs in the darkroom decades before Photoshop existed.

His setup famously included multiple enlargers. He would combine elements from different negatives of landscapes, trees, buildings, bodies, hands, water, clouds to construct a single photographic print of a world that had never actually existed.

And he did it all by hand.

The results can be beautiful, strange, dreamlike and occasionally unsettling.
They're also technically extraordinary.

Uelsmann became nationally recognized after a solo exhibition at New York's Museum of Modern Art in 1967. Today, his photographs are held in major museum collections, including MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

But here's what we love most: Once you stop thinking about how he did it, you start getting lost in what he created.

And perhaps that's the real magic.

We are excited to welcome two vintage photograph prints by Jerry Uelsmann for purchase at Wall Fiction. https://wallfiction.com/collections/fine-art/photographs

Come take a closer look. We think you're going to want to look twice.
