Meet Team Oraltorio: Mel Hague, Dramaturge

Mel Hague is a Toronto based curator and dramaturge. Mel is the Rhubarb Festival Director and Company Dramaturge at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, and the Artist Development Coordinator and Company Dramaturge at Obsidian Theatre Company. Previously, Mel has worked with Factory Theatre, Banff Centre Playwrights Colony, bcurrent performing arts, fu-Gen Asian Canadian Theatre, Eastern Front Theatre, Q***r Acts Festival, The Paprika Festival, and Mulgrave Road Theatre. Other theatre credits include Litmus Theatre’s Birth of Frankenstein (Dora Nomination – Outstanding New Play Independent Category). Dramaturgy work includes Venus’ Daughter by Meghan Swaby (Obsidian Theatre Company, February 2016) and Up the Garden Path by Lisa Codrington (Obsidian Theatre Company, April 2016), Black Boys by Saga Collectif with Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (November 2016).

Ramón Charles is a Toronto native who specializes in Video Production. He’s worked in media for well over a decade; adding his visual stamp and artistic vision on countless video productions for broadcast, advertising, documentary and web. Meet Team Oraltorio: Michael Barrs, Stage Manager

Michael Barrs was born in Hamilton, Ontario and raised in Ancaster, Ontario. Barrs has spent ten seasons with the Canadian Opera Company, including most recently, The Abduction from the Seraglio and The Magic Flute; a cross-country tour of Mark Crawford’s Bed and Breakfast (Belfry Theatre/ Centaur Theatre/Thousand Islands Playhouse); the North American premiere of Arrabal (BASE/ Marquis Entertainment); and productions with Opera Atelier, Canadian Stage, Mirvish Productions, Dancap Productions, Yonge Street Theatricals, Drayton Entertainment, and Just for Laughs.

Starting as a songwriter with a 4-track recorder, Thomas has followed a varied musical career including studying with composer James Tenney, recording and touring for six years with the Juno nominated band Joydrop and producing numerous records. Du Toit has worked on Animal Farm, Vimy, The 39 Steps (Soulpepper) Prince Hamlet (Why Not Theatre); Mouthpiece, Now You See Her (Quote Unquote Collective); Jerusalem (Outside the March/Company Theatre); Harlem Duet, Bakelite Masterpiece (Tarragon Theatre); The Orchard (Shaw Festival). Du Toit has received 3 Dora Awards for Outstanding Lighting Design.
