We begin official rehearsals for ESSENCE this evening with these seven wonderful dance artists. Link for bios below.
In case anyone is curious, here are the rules for rehearsal:
REHEARSAL ETIQUETTE
1. Once rehearsal starts, there is no talking unless specific to the choreo and cell phones are turned off and put away.
2. Be aware and learn parts not specific to you in case you need those instructions later.
3. Be a fully emotive interpreter at all times. Be fearless to express your authentic emotions for every step and every run through
4. As an interpreter, I need you to bring your creativity to the process. Every physical movement must have an emotional reaction attached to it. Let the combination of the music and the choreography dictate that for you in your personal authentic way. I can not tell you how to feel. I may guide when appropriate.
5. If your emotion is too much or off track, I will steer you, but I need you to give me something to work with first.
6. When you have emotion attached to the movement, you will find practice and memorization is far easier and faster. When you recall the emotion attached to the music, the body follows.
7. Be warmed up and ready to rehearse BEFORE rehearsal time. Arrive 15-30 minutes early. A properly warmed up body and mind is very important to the speed and ease of the rehearsal.
8. When being corrected, no one cares or wants to waste time listening to excuses. Just apply correction and keep going.
9. You are now professional dance artists, so you should listen carefully and immediately apply correction. I should never have to waste time correcting twice.
10. Mistakes are great. I love them. Do not be afraid to make them. Often, they inspire new ideas for me. But, the same mistake twice, after being corrected, never.
❤️❤️❤️
I am so looking foward for this great team to work together tonight and over the next few weeks. It is a really strong group of dance artists and beautiful souls. I feel the chemistry is going to be amazing in impacting audiences.
And I am excited (and petrified) to try out my new choreography ideas. Fear is imperative in creating art. WooHoo! Here we start the ride!
Thank you for coming on this adventure with me. I hope you find it rewarding.
❤️❤️❤️
