Repost from Josh Johnson
There’s currently a lot of conversation happening in the comedy community about the loss of paid opportunities for hundreds of independent comedians, it’s a reminder why platforms like and East Toronto Arts Collective matter.
Comedy is an art form and the people brave enough to step onto a stage, develop their voices, take risks and make us laugh deserve opportunities to grow and to be paid for their work.
We know we’re not some huge corporation.
We know we’re still growing.
But we care deeply about the importance comedy has in our lives.
Our goal has always been bigger than simply putting on shows;
We create paid opportunities and want to give comedians places to perform and develop.
We’re working to establish comedy as a respected and supported art form.
And we want to keep building opportunities that extend beyond the borders of Scarborough 🚀✨
We are incredibly grateful to every comedian who has trusted us with their talent, every audience member who buys a ticket, every venue that opens its doors to us, and everyone who shares, follows and supports the work.
At a time when opportunities for comedians can disappear overnight, independent platforms and communities matter more than ever.
We need comedians and we’re going to keep doing everything we can to create spaces where they can work, grow, get paid — and make people laugh.
Keep laughing with us. ❤️
Ty Josh Johnson for always being a voice of truth, reason and laughter 👌🏽
