FOUNDING MANIFESTO OF THE ROOTS AND NATURAL MOVEMENT SCHOOL OF SCULPTURE
Founded by Sculptor and Artist Yassir Nagim
Canada – 2026
School Motto
"We do not carve wood; we liberate the beauty hidden within it and give natural movement a visual voice for the world to see."
Philosophical Maxim
"The root is the autobiography of the tree, and sculpture is the art of reading that autobiography through the language of beauty."
---
We, who believe that nature is the first teacher of all arts, and that beauty exists before the hand of the artist, hereby proclaim the establishment of the Roots and Natural Movement School of Sculpture—an artistic, philosophical, and aesthetic movement founded upon respect for nature and attentive listening to its language as expressed through roots, natural wooden forms, and driftwood shaped by water, wind, and time.
This School is founded upon the conviction that wood is not an inert material, but a living visual entity carrying the memory of place, the marks of time, the movement of growth, and the story of transformation experienced by the tree from seed to its final form.
Every root carries a story. Every curve preserves a memory. Every crack, twist, hollow, or opening within the wooden mass forms part of a natural language written by earth, water, light, and time over countless years of formation.
The School maintains that the sculptor's role is not to impose a form upon matter, but rather to discover the form already hidden within it and reveal the aesthetic value embedded in its depths. The artist does not stand in opposition to nature but enters into a creative dialogue with it—listening to its signals, reading its movements, and bringing its inherent beauty into visibility.
From this understanding emerges the concept of Natural Movement, the central philosophical and aesthetic principle of the School. Every bend within a root, every branch leaning toward light, every curve shaped by wind or water represents a visual trace of life itself. Such movement is not secondary to the sculptural work; it is its essence, spirit, and source of uniqueness.
According to the philosophy of this School, a sculpture is not an object imposed upon wood from the outside. Rather, it is a continuation of a movement that began within the tree itself and evolved through time until its completion through the hands of the artist. Consequently, every artwork remains unique and unrepeatable, for nature itself never repeats its creations.
The School places particular importance on driftwood, carried by rivers, lakes, valleys, and seas, bearing the marks left by waves, winds, and the passage of time. Such wood represents a remarkable collaboration between nature and time and is regarded as a primary sculptural creation in which the forces of the natural world have already participated before the artist encounters it.
We believe that sculpture is not merely the shaping of material but the revelation of meaning. Beauty is not something created from nothingness; it is a latent truth waiting to be unveiled.
Therefore, the Roots and Natural Movement School is founded upon the following principles:
- Respect for the original identity of the wooden form.
- Revealing rather than concealing natural movement.
- Recognizing void and space as equal partners to mass and volume.
- Preserving the marks of time as aesthetic values.
- Discovery before invention.
- Dialogue with material before intervention.
- Respect for the environment through the creative reuse of natural elements.
- Viewing art as a means of elevating human consciousness.
- Belief in the uniqueness and irreproducibility of every artwork.
- Strengthening the spiritual relationship between humanity and nature.
The Roots and Natural Movement School is not merely a new sculptural direction; it is a cultural and humanistic project seeking to restore the bond between humanity and nature and to establish a visual language derived from roots, forests, water, light, and space.
From Canada, beside the Great Lakes and the forests that surround them, we extend our invitation to sculptors, artists, researchers, critics, and cultural institutions around the world to join this aesthetic endeavor.
Come, let us establish together a Covenant of Beauty for the Advancement of Humanity. Let us embrace nature so that it may reveal its secrets to us, and let us listen to the movements hidden within roots, forms, and structures shaped by the hand of time.
We do not seek to imitate nature; we seek to listen to it.
We do not seek to dominate matter; we seek to understand it.
We do not seek to manufacture beauty; we seek to reveal it.
For within every root lies an artwork waiting to be discovered.
Within every wooden form lies a story waiting to be read.
And within every mark left by time resides a secret of the visual identity of existence itself.

Declaration
The Roots and Natural Movement School calls upon sculptors, artists, scholars, and lovers of beauty throughout the world to join in building a new artistic consciousness—one that recognizes nature not as raw material, but as a creative partner.
Through roots, driftwood, forests, rivers, lakes, and the enduring dialogue between matter and spirit, we seek to establish a sculptural language that honors the wisdom of nature and elevates the human experience.
This School stands as an invitation to rediscover beauty where it has always existed: within the silent movements of nature itself.
