A huge thank you to everyone who attended the launch of the 5th annual Art Auction for Old Growth and to Patagonia Vancouver for bringing together artists, collectors and supporters around such an important cause.

It was wonderful to connect with three of the participating artists Kyle Scheurmann, Tess Paul, and Liz Toohey-Wiese, and view AAOG's founder Kyle Scheurmann’s short documentary, A Beautiful Resistance.

Now it’s time to bid! The online auction is open through September 24, featuring work by 23 Canadian artists. 100% of proceeds support the Nature-Based Solutions Foundation’s work protecting endangered old-growth forests and advancing Indigenous-led conservation in British Columbia.

There’s a reason Jamie Evrard has returned to flowers for nearly 50 years, and it has very little to do with simply painting flowers.

For Jamie, they are an entry point into colour, memory, abstraction, and the unpredictable process of making a painting.

Ahead of her new solo exhibition, What Remains, Jamie reflects on how her practice has evolved from painting what she sees to something far more intuitive, into a conversation, and sometimes a battle, between memory, paint and canvas.

It’s a wonderful glimpse into the thinking behind the new work.

What happens when an artist who has painted trees for decades decides to remove the trees?

In this artist talk, Robert Marchessault shares the inspiration behind his newest body of work, Les Murs Vivants. Fascinated by the extraordinary vertical gardens of French botanist Patrick Blanc, Marchessault began looking at foliage differently, not as part of a landscape, but as a subject in itself.

The resulting paintings are dense, rhythmic and alive with movement. Leaves, colour and texture spread across the surface, somewhere between garden and abstraction.

Hear Robert speak about the ideas and discoveries behind this new direction in his work, then experience the paintings in person at Bau-Xi Gallery | Dufferin.
