On Thursday, July 30th the Friday Night BLUES JAM will be showcasing some of our performers at a free outdoor concert!

Featuring the Friday Night Jam house band Mike Sedgewick (guitar), Tex Bach (bass), and Tim Gittens (drums).

This weekly concert series runs through the months of June and July every Thursday. It is put on by the great people at the Willowdale Arts Collective and the Toronto Arts Council. Pro Tip #1.

Be in tune.

At the Friday Night Blues Jam everyone is given a heads up at least 10 minutes before they are on stage. Use that time to tune your guitar. Even if it was in tune when you left your house, tune up. Temperature and humidity change the way that your guitar and strings interact. Best thing is to have a clip on tuner and QUIETLY tune your guitar before your performance. If you don't have one, ask around. Someone will have one. If you are tuning on stage seconds before the jam starts, I promise you everyone will be annoyed. You are wasting valuable jam time. You are making noise when the band is sorting out the changes etc. And the jam host notices all of this. In the future your slot will be determined in part by how you navigate these moments. Furthermore, being in tune will just help your ideas land with an audience. Non musicians don't know what scales or mode you're using. They don't care. All that matters is that you are in tune and are playing appropriate to the song. I always say it's the number one way that an inexperienced player can sound their best amongst other good players.
Just be in tune.
