In 2010, after years of producing an open-mic style monthly burlesque variety night at Mitzi's Sister, Mysterion and the Wolfman teamed up with Fionna Flauntit to create a core troupe of burlesque performers that they named Great Canadian Burlesque. CAST
With Tanya Cheex, Chaos Divine and Dolly Berlin as founding members, the troupe quickly grew to include Miss Mitzy Cream, Bellydancer Karen, and
later Sassy Ray, Gigi Vanilla, Eve of Destruction, El Toro (boylesque), Pretty Penny, Sadie Mae, Genie Emerald and resident kitten Marilyn St. In 2013, GCB introduced Miss Cadence (Pink Velvet Burlesque) as an official member of the troupe after her move to Toronto from Halifax. GCB also regularly welcomes Pastel Supernova (Love Letters), Esther De Ville, Bella Muerte and Koston Kreme (Capital Tease) and as auxiliary performers. SHOWS
Great Canadian Burlesque regularly presents events for multiple levels of experience. Our official monthly event, The “Great Canadian Tease” brunch occurs every 2nd Sunday of the month. Produced by Fionna Flauntit and hosted by the Wolfman, it features a rotating cast of our top talent, with special guests from across the Toronto burlesque circuit. Sister events run in Ottawa and Calgary, and continue to expand across the country. In 2013, Mysterion has also brought back the original burlesque mixer for multi-tiers of experience. “Showtime, Ladies!” happens the 3rd Thursday of most months at The Sister (formerly Mitzi’s Sister). “Showtime, Ladies!” is a stepping-stone stage where newer performers can showcase and test out the stage alongside established special guests, magicians, variety artists, and singer/musicians. Mysterion also produces the popular Girlesque Expo every January, bringing in special guests and legends from across North America, such as Coco Lectric, The Schlep Sisters, Miss Indigo Blue, April March, Tiffany Carter, and the incomparable Tempest Storm. Look out for members of Great Canadian Burlesque also featured as guests on our friends and affiliates burlesque and vaudeville productions, go-go dancing with some of Toronto's favourite bands, and entertaining guests at private affairs around the city.
