June is World Zoo and Aquarium Month, and what better way to celebrate than with some behind the scenes!

🪼 Today we’re watching our dwarf lion’s mane jellyfish eat!

Our aquarists feed these jellies a wide variety of proteins! In their Pacific krill shake, they have numerous blended nutrient sources such as oyster feast, roe, or moon jellies. And their Jelly-O mix is made with ingredients like beef gelatin, nannochloropsis, moon or upside down jellies, and sleco!

World Zoo and Aquarium Month celebrates the vital role these establishments play in the conservation and research of all animal species and the environment; they provide a unique opportunity for everyone to have the chance to learn, connect, and appreciate the world’s biodiversity 🌎

Tune in throughout June for more fun feeds in honour of World Zoo and Aquarium Month!

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour the many Nations whose connection to this land, and to the water, runs deeper than any of us can measure.

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is grateful to exist on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, in the place known as Tkaronto "the place in the water where the trees are standing."

🌈 Pride month marks a vibrant and empowering time for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, as people from all walks of life come together to celebrate diversity, love, and equality!

This year is our 10th annual Night at the Aqueerium Pride event, and we couldn't be more proud to be hosting in conjunction with Pride Toronto as a major cultural event partner!

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada is committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone. We have a strict zero-tolerance policy (and we mean ZERO tolerance!) towards hate, discrimination, or any form of prejudice. If we see hateful comments about our event, our performers, or towards ANYONE, it will not be tolerated and will be removed.

Fostering an environment where all our guests and team members, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression can feel welcomed, respected, and safe is a top priority for us. We continue to do the work to further educate ourselves and to help amplify the voices and organizations that are so vital for the community, now more than ever.

Join us in championing equality and inclusion. Together, let's make a splash for a more inclusive world!

Happy Pride! 🐠🏳️‍🌈

Happy World Sea Turtle Day from your favourite fishy friends: Spot, Chewy, and Schoona! 🐢🐢🐢

June 16th is a day to promote the protection of sea turtles and their habitats, as well as highlight the significance of sea turtles across the world 🌎

All sea turtles are incredibly important animals who support our ocean 🌊 They contribute to balanced ecosystems in multiple ways such as maintaining healthy seagrass beds, cycling nutrients, and supporting biodiversity!

🌟 Green sea turtles are no longer endangered! Their recovery is thanks to numerous major global cooperation efforts! But our work isn’t done yet - many other species are threatened by the same issues, like hunting, habitat loss, and pollution.

Studies have shown that over half of all sea turtles have consumed plastic particles. Sea turtles often mistake plastic waste for their food which results in choking, internal injuries, or blockages that lead to starvation.

🫶 We all have a part to play in reducing plastic usage and waste, and ultimately saving our ocean and its animals! Here are a few things to consider in your daily routine:
• Always carry a reusable bag
• Keep reusable utensils and straws on you for outings
• Look into refillable options (such as hygiene or cleaning products)
• Consider bamboo alternatives (such as tooth brushes)
• Find local clean ups to volunteer for
• Spread the word- talking about the issue is free!

🌟 If the world can come together to accomplish reversing green sea turtles endangerment, imagine what else we can do for the rest of the threatened wildlife who need our help!

Celebrate green sea turtles and ocean conservation with us 🐢 Let us know in the comments what you’ll do to protect the turtles, or send this with your friends and family to share the love!

June is World Zoo and Aquarium Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a behind the scenes feature!

🦞 Today we’re tagging along to watch a slipper lobster feed!

Slipper lobsters are omnivorous scavengers; in nature, their diet consists of things like mollusks, crustaceans, worms and echinoderms, and even decaying animal matter! Here at the aquarium, they are fed a variety of protein such as mussels, scallops, shrimp, and fish like capelin or mackerel 🐟

World Zoo and Aquarium Month celebrates the vital role these establishments play in the conservation and research of all animal species and the environment; they provide a unique opportunity for everyone to have the chance to learn, connect, and appreciate the world’s biodiversity 🌎
