I started writing music seriously in my early 20's when my mother was diagnosed with her first of 3 cancers. I've always used music to heal.... made music to heal. From loss to grief to loneliness and depression to wanting to contribute to healing the world, this has always been my way. DUST is an example of this but there are so many more. Some grief has been met with tenderness and patience that show through in the lyrics and melodies, and other times it has come out as dark and as raw as it feels.

Tonight ... music and healing will be the heart of our conversation. Join me, my dear friend Mimi O'Bonsawin, and two other wonderful speakers and artists at Hugh's Room Live for a free event exploring music as medicine. Mimi will be performing a special short set of music and I will be moderating the panel discussion. All are welcome. Doors at 6:30pm. Event at 7pm. See you there.

Join us this coming Monday, October 5th for Let's Talk Burnout, where Hugh’s Room Live brings artists and community members together for an evening exploring the relationship between creativity, music and mental wellbeing. I'm honoured to moderate the panel. The evening will begin with a live musical performance by the one and only Mimi O'Bonsawin, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A and will close with an informal opportunity to connect and continue the conversation with artists, panelists and fellow members of the community.

I’ve got a busy few months coming up!

BIRD GIRL is screening with Italian subtitles in the motherland 🇮🇹this week at the incredible Matera International Film Festival-MATiFF in beautiful Matera, Italy. I wish I was there.

My award-winning Firecracker Department Comedy Igniter dark comedy HAPPY HOUR is screening Hamilton Film Festival as an official selection on October 23rd.

And on November 7th I’ll be travelling to our nation’s capitol for the screenings of both HAPPY HOUR and my newest documentary on the homeless crisis STORIES FROM THE STREET - both official selections at this year’s OCanFilmFest .

Two months ago today my dear friend who became like a mother to me left this world. She often visits me now as a butterfly. 🦋 That morning I received a call that you’re never ever prepared for. Debi had the biggest heart and best laugh and had lived a very very hard life. Her greatest gift to me besides her stories and friendship and a profound wisdom she sharpened from life on the streets was a deep new friendship with her beautiful son who inherited all her virtues. I hope she knew she was loved.

I felt like honouring her on the 2nd month anniversary of her passing this morning with a song I started writing with my good friend rgrunwald . I miss you Debi. 🦋❤️‍🩹
