ɢᴇᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴋɴᴏᴡ Simon Doty
Simon Doty makes dance music from the bottom up. Where most people hear the vocal, the hook or the melody first, Simon starts with the relationship between the kick, bass and groove—the pressure a record creates in a room before anyone has to think about it. From there, everything else has to earn its place. The result is music built on tension between physicality and musicality: heavy enough to work on a big system at 2 a.m., but detailed enough to reveal something more human underneath—a chord change, an unstable synth, a fleeting melody, an imperfect piece of hardware.
Rather than sit neatly inside melodic house, minimal, progressive or tech house, Simon pulls from all of them, with the common thread being his taste: enough melody to feel something, enough restraint to leave space, and enough low end to make the whole thing undeniable.
