Canvas Gallery is a vibrant visual arts venue with a constantly changing inventory of about 1,200 original works by more than 120 established and emerging Canadian artists. Opened in late October of 2003 by husband and wife Mark Hunter & Megan Less, the gallery was their answer to what they felt was a need for accessible original art in the Toronto area. We offer an impressive selection and variety of original pieces to first-time buyers and seasoned collectors alike. Paintings, photography, encaustic & mixed media pieces as well as works on paper are presented in a casual non-intimidating atmosphere where customers are encouraged to flip through the work at their own pace. All works are available to be taken on approval to try at home before purchasing.

Almost 20 years with Canvas, and Donna Andreychuk still gives us plenty to get excited about!
A longtime crowd favourite, Donna has delivered four beautiful new paintings from her studio in Delaware, Ontario. Her abstracted Canadian landscapes are unmistakably hers: winding branches, rocky shorelines and glimpses of water brought together with wonderfully expressive brushwork.
Soft blues, sage greens and lilacs mingle with flashes of coral, pink and gold. There’s so much movement and colour, yet the compositions feel beautifully balanced. Sophisticated painting with plenty of life—these deserve a good, long look.
Painting outdoors is an important part of Donna’s practice, and that connection to the landscape comes through even in her most abstract passages.
The new arrivals measure 48 × 60”, 40 × 60”, 40 × 40” and 30 × 40”.

Kyle Sorensen drove down from his Parry Sound studio with three stunning new paintings: two 36 × 36″ pieces and a beautiful 36 × 60″—a size we haven’t had from him before, and we’re loving it!
Kyle’s geometric take on the Canadian landscape is a huge favourite here at Canvas Gallery. Inspired by Northern Ontario and Georgian Bay, he turns rocky shorelines, windswept pines and open water into sharp shapes and beautifully balanced colour.
These new works have so much to enjoy: fractured rock faces in charcoal, soft pink and warm cream, fresh greens, and ribbons of blue and white stretching through the water and sky. There’s movement in every angular edge, yet that familiar feeling of calm by the lake comes through beautifully.

Meet Cynthia Gatien, the newest artist to join Canvas Gallery—and what a cheerful arrival! These five new paintings are bursting with colour, whimsy and little details that keep you looking. 🌸
Overflowing bouquets, striped and spotted vases, patterned rooms and a wonderful cast of cats, dogs, rabbits and birds. There’s even a deer joining the party beneath a chandelier! Cynthia brings it all together with a playful imagination and a fabulous eye for colour.
Working from her studio in Cornwall on the St. Lawrence River, this self-taught Ontario artist draws on years of photography and decorative painting. You can see that love of pattern throughout these pieces, with something to discover in every corner.
Her goal is to make art that lights up a room and makes people happy. We think she’s doing a pretty good job of that!

Grace Afonso came in from her studio in Hamilton, Ontario, with six new works that just pop. Honestly, it's hard to look at these paintings and stay in a bad mood.
Grace's take on the Canadian landscape is entirely her own. Rolling fields become patches of pink, orange and lime green, little houses nestle beneath colourful rooftops, and a tree gets to be coral pink simply because... well, look how good it looks. Then there are those glorious blues. So much happiness, and absolutely nothing timid about the colour.
Look closer and you'll see the texture, loose edges and glimpses of colour peeking through the layers, with roads and waterways drawing you farther into each painting.
Born in Sudbury, Grace lived in small Ontario towns and Portugal before settling in Hamilton. Alongside a nursing degree at McMaster, she continued her arts education, including residencies in Italy and France.
Plenty of life experience behind that wonderfully playful eye.

Grace Afonso came in from her studio in Ancaster, Ontario, with six new works that just pop. Honestly, it’s hard to look at these paintings and stay in a bad mood.

Eleanor Lowden popped into the gallery Thursday morning with two larger paintings and four brilliant little smalls—and it was a lovely way to start the day! Eleanor has been part of Canvas Gallery for well over twenty years, and it’s always great to have her back for a catch-up.
Her latest work celebrates the parts of our city we’re slowly losing: neighbourhood corner stores, classic old houses and funky restaurants that have been around forever. Those familiar places you walk past for years, then suddenly realize how much you’d miss them.
Eleanor brings them to life with bright colour, playful patterns and her wonderfully happy way of seeing the world. Look a little closer and you’ll find layers of colour, polka dots, stencilled shapes and countless little marks that give each painting its character. There’s plenty to enjoy across the room—and even more when you get your nose a little closer.
And those four smalls? All that personality, just in a smaller package.

Sheila Davis blew into town with five new paintings, and they’ve brought a whole lot of energy into the gallery! Megan and Sheila had a great chat and catch-up while we got a first look at the new arrivals. Always a good day when Sheila comes through the door.
These oils on panel practically jump off the surface. Tangled growth, flashes of light and bold brushwork—there’s so much movement in them, you can almost feel the forest stirring.
Sheila paints the Ontario landscape as she feels it, working quickly with layers of transparent colour, splatters and drips, then sweeping in with heavier strokes and fine, expressive marks. It’s that fleeting flash of colour or light that gets her going, and that excitement comes straight through in the paintings.
Photographs give you a taste, but these five really need to be seen in person. Come down to Canvas Gallery and spend a little time with them. They’ve got plenty to say.

“When is Gabriella’s new work coming?” Around here, that’s pretty much a daily question. Well… here it is!
Five beautiful new paintings by Gabriella Collier have arrived at Canvas Gallery, in a range of sizes—and for those of you who’ve been waiting these past few months, we think you’ll be very happy.
Big, billowing clouds, quiet lake waters and sunlit fields… Gabriella has a way of painting a landscape that makes you want to stop for a minute and just enjoy the view. And honestly, we could all use a little of that.
Working from Port Credit, she builds her acrylic paintings with layers, glazes and texture, creating that lovely combination of softness, depth and light. There’s plenty to catch your eye up close, and such a peaceful feeling when you step back.

Kerry Walford came by with a spectacular new painting, A View from Killarney. It’s 48 × 72 inches of colour, light and all the reasons we love getting outside in Ontario.
She also brought six small paintings, and honestly, they’re every bit as beautiful. Same gorgeous sense of light and place, just easier to fit in your car.
Kerry paints full-time from her studio in Cayuga, Ontario. Her family trips through places like Killarney and Algonquin often become the starting point for her work. She paints in oils, using bold brushwork and luminous colour to capture how a place felt to be in, rather than every last detail.
Kerry’s lovely daughter Clementine kindly agreed to model four of the smalls for us. Swipe through to see her, the paintings and a few in situ views. Better yet, come see them in person!

Shane Norrie has brought six new paintings to the gallery this week, and they show just how much range he has. He’s a potter, an abstract painter and a landscape painter—and he’s remarkably good at all three.
Five of the new works are oil landscapes. The colour is electric: blue trees, flashes of orange and pink, and rocks and forest floors built up with energetic brushwork. They have the feeling of being out in the woods, while still looking entirely like Shane’s own world. The sixth piece is a 42 × 42-inch acrylic abstract, quieter in colour but full of movement and texture.
Shane has exhibited his painting and ceramics widely, including at the Woodstock Art Gallery. What we admire most is his willingness to keep experimenting. Come see these in person—the brushwork is even better up close. Please enjoy Shane’s new work and in situs. Details below.
