June is recognized in the Catholic Church as the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This devotion centers on the physical heart of Jesus as a symbol of His boundless, sacrificial love and mercy for humanity.

The Origins:
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque: The devotion stems from a series of private visions received by this French nun between 1673 and 1675.

The Message: Jesus revealed His heart as burning with love for humanity, yet often wounded by indifference. He asked that the Friday following the feast of Corpus Christi be established as a special feast day to honor His Sacred Heart.

How It’s ObservedSolemnity: The feast day itself is a movable feast celebrated 19 days after Pentecost.

Daily Prayer: The faithful often recite the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or make acts of consecration and reparation throughout the month.

Local Practice: You can explore local observances or find related materials through the Archdiocese of Toronto, which actively promotes this month of reflection across its parishes and schools.
