Not Just Any Body Part Dance. Teach. Expressive Arts Therapy. Yoga Welcome to Not Just Any Body Part! One of the ways I work is I collaborate with you, and we gather resources together.

Here you will find offerings related to Expressive Arts Therapy, dance, teaching and Yoga. For those interested in exploring the therapeutic value of art-making, my philosophy follows some foundational principles:

You are the expert of your own experience and knowing. The way that we do that is we engage with something in the arts. I do have a skill set where I offer you suggestions. I might ask

what you notice or if you discover any surprises. I might ask what changed for you and then, collaboratively, look at what transpired in the work and what that opens towards in your life. What is often expressed at the end of a session is a close and creative involvement in a process and a heightened sense of motivation and direction in problem-solving.

TWO CLASS STREAMS:
18 MARCH — 22 APRIL
19 MARCH — 23 APRIL

Series cost is $40 +HST
No dance experience is required to participate.

TUES stream: 18 March – 22 April | “On Your Feet” – seated to standing
This class begins in a seated position and progresses to a standing position, with seated options. Designed to be accessible for people with mild physical and/or cognitive challenges.

WED stream: 19 March – 23 April | “On Your Feet” – seated to standing with chair support
This class begins in a seated position and progresses to a chair supported standing position, with seated options. Designed to be accessible for people with mild and/or cognitive challenges.

Sharing Dance Older Adults is an accessible dance program which aims to support overall physical, emotional and social wellbeing through dance engagement as well as build and develop skill and confidence in dance movement for older adults with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.

Through video-streaming technology, each weekly class is taught by a professional dance teacher from Canada’s National Ballet School’s studios. The classes are adaptable for all abilities and all levels of experience. Participants can dance along either seated or standing so that everyone is comfortable and focused on having fun. Classes build from week-to-week.

As a graduate of the teacher training program for professional dancers at Canada’s National Ballet School, I’m thrilled to be the on-site facilitator. I will be your friendly face that greets you in person week-to-week. I am available to answer any questions or concerns, host the pre and post class social time, provide an introduction to the material and guide you with modifications needed along the way. “My hope is that Sharing Dance Older Adults will help redefine what dance is, who can be a dancer and to break barriers that have separated dance from everyday people.”

Doors open at 10am and included is a post-class social time with tea and coffee hosted by the PAC.

Spring is popping! It's nature's way of saying, let's dance. Come mark the beginning of a new season with us at the prestigious FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre - St. Catharines starting April 23.

Sharing Dance Older Adults is an accessible dance program which aims to support overall physical, emotional and social wellbeing through dance engagement. The 6-week series returns to the PAC starting 23 April.

Maggie Forgeron is the on-site facilitator for Sharing Dance Older Adults. Maggie is a local dance artist and teacher, movement researcher and Expressive Arts Therapist. Maggie’s role is to host the pre and post class social time, provide an introduction to the material and guide you with modifications needed along the way.

As the days grow darker, what practices keep the embers of your own light aglow?
What keeps you going?

For myself, movement and dance always ignites new sparks. I may not feel that way at the start of class, but the feeling grows and grows with a simple gesture, a glance from another dancer across the room, an invigorating breath in and releasing breath out or a playful mistake that makes me laugh at myself. Dark times call for serious (and sometimes NOT so serious) dancing.

No dance experience is required to participate.

Sharing Dance for Older Adults is an accessible dance program which aims to support overall physical, emotional and social wellbeing through dance engagement as well as build and develop skill and confidence in dance movement for older adults with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.

8-week class series from 26 October to 14 December
Wednesday at 10:30am, doors open at 10:00am
