Producer: Emily Harris, Rosalie Chicoine Perreault
Writer/Director: Paul Shkordoff
Casting Director: Jesse Griffiths
Casting Assistants: Leah Galloway, Brian MacDougall

Rate of Pay / Contract:
Travel Days: $300
Hold Days: $300
Per Diem: $65
Shoot Days: $600/day

Travel, Accommodation, Per Diem to be provided by production.

CASTING FOR:
[SERAJ] Male, Age 18-25 (must be 18 or older) South Asian (Afghan). In addition to speaking English (it does not need to be perfect English), talent MUST be able to speak one of the following languages: Dari / Farsi / Pashto. Seraj is a young undocumented migrant making his way from Afghanistan to Germany. He is currently in Serbia, having trekked thus far mostly by foot. Though he has an undeniable charm to him — instantly likeable with a mischievous sense of humour — he’s the unlikely leader of a group of young men journeying to Western Europe together.

Storyline: IMPORT follows an American basketball player whose life comes apart when he gets cut from his Serbian team. This will be the first feature from writer-director Paul Shkordoff, whose short film BENJAMIN, BENNY, BEN played in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020.

In addition to basketball our film deals with the Balkan refugee crisis on the ground in Serbia. As an overwhelming percentage of refugees that have passed through Serbia are of Afghani descent, it’s very important to us to cast this role authentically. Although only in a few scenes, SERAJ has been written, along with other roles in the film, with the ultimate aim of humanizing the depiction of migrants as fully realized people with dreams and lives beyond just their circumstances.

INTERESTED APPLICANTS SHOULD SEND THEIR HEADSHOT/RESUME TO [email protected] WITH THE SUBJECT LINE “IMPORT SUBMISSION - YOUR NAME”
