Tosca Hidalgo y Terán

Tosca Hidalgo y Terán Art + Science Sound + Vision BioArt SciArt My ‘jewelry’ serves as maquettes and experiments towards my sculptural work.

My work explores Terrestrial manifestations through combining tactile, sculptural forms, and audio. Creating immersive environments, unnatural History Dioramas, and performative, wearable structures questioning Human origin and mythos. The majority of my work draws from my fascination with the artistic representation of natural history, the creation of fictitious places in literature and my intere

st in microscopic invertebrates: Melethallia, Phytoplankton and Radiolarians, as well as Cordyceps fungus – in particular; Cordyceps unilateralis, a species of entomopathogenic fungus that infects and alters the behaviour of insects in order to ensure the widespread distribution of its spores. The body of work, An unNatural History created for Urban Glass Brooklyn and featured during SOFA, NY 2009 is an example of this passion to bring the micro-cosmos to the macro through metal, glass, mixed/multi-media, often 'wearable' moquettes. Past work/installations: Descent to Perelandra based upon C.S. Lewis' Perelandra, and Orbis Tertius based upon the short story of the same title by Jorge Luis Borges were instances where I imagined artifacts, and transgenic organisms that may have been suggested or read between the lines, from these stories. If we can say that the world of science is synonymous with truth and the world of art with that of fiction, I want to tread a middle ground that is unusual and seemingly beyond belief, yet also familiar.

When building soundscapes & sound-baths we like to rehearse sections, elements to map out our time & explore transitions. This way creates a comfort zone we improv within. Rehearsals towards the 27th Anniversary taking place August 24 for THE AMBiENT PiNG Handlebar

I like exploring percussive sounds with my Buchla modules. Andrei came into the room, laughed & said listen to what this is sounding like! Maybe? Kind of?

Evolving the Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis experience!

Now we have a good, optimized model ready for Resonite!
Our Holobiont have more happening to them but I am just super excited to be finally working on a more accurate version of what I had envisioned back in 2021!!

Players (guests) in our virtual coastal rainforest might connect their brainwave activity with the fungi’s bio-electrical activity.
This is essentially the goal: When your brainwave activity connects with another player and/or with the living mycelium, your perception slowly starts to alter, and you see the microscopic connections between all things, you see your Holobiont self as microbial organisms start to reveal themselves; on your skin, around you, between the other Players and the forest.

Listening to the forest and working together with fellow players eventually brings you face to face with the Mycelial Entity.

Performance Schedule:
• February 22, 2026 — 11:00-12:00PM PT • 2:00-3PM ET
• February 25, 2026 — 5:00–6:00PM PT • 8:00-9:00PM ET
• February 28, 2026 — 5:00–6:00PM PT • 8:00-9:00PM ET

Toronto Venue: Theatre Passé Muraille
Vancouver Venue: VIVO New Media Centre
Festival: PXR26

Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis positions VR theatre as a site of listening, care, and ecological entanglement, inviting audiences to encounter technology not as spectacle, but as a living interface with more-than-human intelligence.
