Why do people attack Method Acting all the time?

Ellen Burstyn has a few thoughts. 👀

I’m sick of people using The Method as an excuse for bad behaviour. Being committed to your work doesn’t mean you get to mistreat the people around you and that’s NOT what the Method is and other folks shouldn’t knock it because of a few bad apples.

I’ve been a Method actor for 45+ years and it has opened up a world of creativity and truth for me. It’s what I practice and what I teach.

Repost from Linus | Learn Lines & Self Tape App for Actors. It’s exactly what I learned studying at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Strasberg’s was famous for saying things like, “If you’re drinking a cup of coffee, really drink the cup of coffee!!”

And yet I still see folks LLs who act like they’re doing this or worse- act like they’re going to leave! And then hesitate and are then completely in their heads. Our job is to find a way to 100% believe.
