Canadian Fine Arts - Toronto Canadian Fine Arts features historical Canadian paintings by the Group of Seven, Les Automatistes, Painters Eleven, and other significant Canadian artists.

CFA Gallery (Canadian Fine Arts) opened in Toronto in 2000. With over fifty years of experience, Michel Bigué has developed an expertise recognized by both seasoned collectors and major art institutions. CFA specializes in the purchase and sale of important Canadian Art. Our expertise includes turn of the century painters such as Morrice, Suzor-Coté, Cullen, Gagnon and other Impressionist artists

of that era. Through the years we have organized important shows and sales of the Group of Seven (MacDonald, Jackson, Harris, Varley, Lismer, Carmichael, Johnston) and some of their famous contemporaries (Thomson, Carr, Milne, Fortin). Post-war artists are of special interest to us. We are looking to purchase important works by the Les Automatistes (Borduas, Riopelle, Ferron, Gauvreau, Barbeau, Leduc, Mousseau) as well as the Ontario based Painters Eleven. We also buy and sell independent artists such as Lyman, Pellan, Colville, Lemieux, Dallaire and Kurelek.

A founding member of both the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy, Forbes built his reputation on portraiture, including the first sitting ever granted a Canadian painter by a British monarch. A view of Toronto from the water is a rare subject in his hand, and a rarer record of the city as it once appeared from the lake.

Mark Stebbins paints the way a weaver works. Thread by thread, decision by decision, every choice accumulating into the whole.

His practice sits at an unusual intersection: the history of abstract painting, the traditions of textile craft, and the logic of digital images. What holds it together is labour. The visible evidence of a hand doing slow work in a fast world, which is what makes these paintings so satisfying to stand in front of.

Dust and Glue is small, at nine by seven inches, and rewards close looking. The scale is deliberate. Nothing here announces itself from across the room.

Stebbins has exhibited across Canada and internationally, with a solo exhibition at Museum London and recent shows in Seoul, London and Beijing. His work is held in the collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Royal Bank of Canada, and private collections across North America and beyond.
