in 1847 abolitionists and activist Frederick Douglass released the first issue of his newspaper, The North Star, which ran until April 17, 1851.
Frederick Douglass wrote about coming to in July 1849 in the North Star? In his newspaper the North Star, Douglass wrote "Dear Readers, - Prostration by a severe illness of more than ten days standing, and from the effects of which I have not yet recovered has hindered my writing for the 'North Star,' as well as detained me for the present, from the further prosecution of my Anti-Slavery Tour in the West."
"On arriving at Detroit, the 3d July, in full hope of having a successful series of meetings in that City, commencing on the memorable 4th July, I was stricken upon the threshold with an illness that completely thwarted my hopes. I was seized with a burning fever, violent headache and excruciating pains in all my limbs, which at once brought me to my bed. My illness continued unabated during three days; on the fourth day I was somewhat relieved, and the heat being intense at Detroit, my friends caused me to be removed from that place to Windsor on the Canada side, where they hoped that the cooler and purer atmosphere would act favorably to my recovery ... I remained at Windsor four days ... "
