Founded in 1970 by Ken Gass and Frank Trotz, Factory Theatre was the first company to exclusively produce Canadian plays. Its huge initial success led to the founding of the Alternate Theatre Movement which radically changed the face of Canadian theatre in favour of the Canadian voice. For more than 50 years, Factory has been known as the “Home of the Canadian Playwright” and has produced more than 300 new Canadian plays in mainstage productions and 600 more in workshop and other formats.

Holiday! An Improvised Musical takes its inspiration from Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” to bring you the only party you’ll need. Based on suggestions from the audience, the cast weaves together a series of improvised vignettes and songs exploring love, relationships, work and the true meaning of the season. You’ll leave with a smile on your face and a song in your heart (though you may not remember the words because that song didn’t exist an hour before the show).

ABOUT SASCHA

Sascha Cole is a Dora-nominated actor and creative producer with 25 years of experience working across Canada’s arts and culture landscape. Her producing career has included international collaborations and presentations at large-scale festivals, alongside extensive work with independent artists. She brings a comprehensive perspective and deep love for the Toronto performing arts ecology, with a practice rooted in artistic development, collaboration, and creative risk. She is thrilled to join Factory in this moment of transformation.

ABOUT CAROLINE

Caroline John is a non-profit and fundraising professional with over 20 years of experience in the arts, culture, environment, public policy, and community service oriented organizations. She brings a breadth of knowledge and experience in driving success for the performing arts and the inter-related communities of artists, creatives, artsworkers, economies, and society. Having been involved with many grassroots and national campaigns and projects aiming to uplift and enrich communities at its core, she is thrilled to join Factory at this time of revitalization and renewal.

Have you ever danced on the head of a pin? – the last text sent by the cast and crew of a failed reality tv show set on the moon before they stopped sending footage and went silent.

On earth, an ordinary broke person in the microgig economy accepts an odd job: accompany an agentic AI to the moon to retrieve the people and data from the failed lunar reality tv venture, and return them to earth before they suffocate. She soon discovers the inhabitants are not easily convinced to leave an erotic choose-your-own virtual reality simulation to board a space megabus back to burning earth. A secret VR love affair, a nun digging a gooneral, and all manner of bodily and metaphysical decomposition confirm suspicions that this gig extends far beyond occasionally assisting a bot with slippery door handles.

Introducing Factory Theatre’s new Artistic Director, Kevin Matthew Wong! We are thrilled to welcome Kevin, an internationally touring theatre creator, producer, and cultural leader, as he steps into this role leading Factory into a new chapter of rigorous, uplifting, and intimate performing arts at 125 Bathurst.

Kevin’s appointment marks a new chapter for Factory Theatre that reimagines the institution as a world-class home for creativity while connecting Toronto with the world. Under Wong’s leadership, the company’s artistic vision will encompass theatre, dance, music, cabaret, film, Theatre for Young Audiences, devised performance and multidisciplinary creation.

Kevin comes to Factory following seven years at Why Not Theatre, most recently as Executive Producer and Artistic Associate. There, he helped shape the company’s national and international work while leading a portfolio of large-scale and touring projects. Wong’s own creative work has been presented across Canada and internationally - his acclaimed Benevolence series explores Hakka identity, migration, guesthood and cultural inheritance across theatre, film and installation.

There’s no better way to bring our fall 2026 programming to a raucous close than with the return of Bad Dog Theatre’s beloved Holiday! An Improvised Musical (December 10 – 19, 2026), in association with Factory Theatre.
