Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir

Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir TWMVC performs a repertoire of traditional and contemporary choral music at concert halls in Toronto, North America and the UK.

TWMVC proudly draws on the great Welsh tradition of singing music born of the valleys and mountains of Wales, as well as developing an ever growing repertoire of contemporary and traditional music.

It was a great pleasure for members of the TWMVC to participate in the performance of the "Ode to Joy" fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, along with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (simulcast from Roy Thomson Hall) at Sankofa Square last night.
We're already familiar with the "freude" of ensemble singing, and the hundreds of choristers there raising their voices together really brought that home!😄🎼

A hot Wednesday night in Toronto, and the work doesn’t stop.

With our Maritime Tour just weeks away — and our flight to Halifax on July 3 fast approaching — the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is putting in the hours, the focus, and the heart.

Tonight’s rehearsal features one of our soloists Ryan Tilley leading us through the iconic You Raise Me Up, as our Musical Director pushes us to refine every phrase, every breath, every blend. Four‑part male voice harmony doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through commitment, hard work, and nights exactly like this one.

We can’t wait to bring this music to audiences across the Maritimes.

The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is proud to present the final concert of our four‑concert, ten‑day Maritime tour — this time in the beautiful city of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Join us on Friday, July 10 at 7:00pm at The Kirk of St. James, 35 Fitzroy Street, for an evening of harmony, heritage, and heartfelt music.

We are truly excited to perform for the wonderful people of Charlottetown once again. The Kirk’s warm acoustics and welcoming team make it the perfect place to bring our Maritime journey to a close, and we’re preparing a memorable program to celebrate this final stop of the tour.

After the concert, the choir will continue the festivities with an afterglow at The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in downtown Charlottetown — a chance to unwind, share stories, and enjoy a bit of Maritime hospitality with friends old and new.

The following day, we’ll be touring the sights of Charlottetown before gathering for a fabulous farewell‑to‑the‑Maritimes dinner at the iconic Lobster on the Wharf — a fitting end to an unforgettable tour filled with music, community, and the kindness of the people of Nova Scotia and PEI.

If you’re in Charlottetown — or know someone who is — please share this post. We’d love to see you there.
Diolch yn fawr!

The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is thrilled to present the third concert of our four‑concert, ten‑day Maritime tour — this time in the heart of Sydney, Cape Breton. Join us on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00pm at the remarkable Sacred Heart Downtown (SHD), a venue unlike anything we’ve ever performed in.

SHD is a former church transformed into a breathtaking multi‑functional arts space, complete with two spacious Green Rooms, a high‑tech Media Control Room, professional lighting and PA system, and beautifully preserved features including a classic pipe organ and a Yamaha concert piano. It’s the perfect blend of heritage and modern performance design, and we can’t wait to fill it with harmony.

We are also honoured that His Worship Cecil Clarke, Mayor of Sydney Nova Scotia, has graciously accepted our invitation to attend. We’re grateful for his support and look forward to meeting him during this special evening.

What makes this evening truly extraordinary is that your ticket includes a multi‑course dinner, prepared by the exceptional team at Mise En Place Catering. Performers and audience members will share this meal together — a rare and special experience that turns the entire night into a celebration of music, community, and Maritime hospitality.

We’re also incredibly excited to collaborate with the outstanding Cape Breton Chordsmen. Meeting them, sharing the stage, and hearing them perform will be a highlight of our tour.

This promises to be a memorable, one‑of‑a‑kind event — a concert, a shared meal, a cultural exchange, and a celebration of Cape Breton’s artistic spirit all in one unforgettable evening.

If you live in Nova Scotia — or know someone who does — please share this post. Tickets are limited and selling fast!

Mahone Bay, we’re on our way

The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is thrilled to be performing in beautiful Mahone Bay, Lunenburg County — a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site — on Sunday, July 5 at 4:00pm. This will be the second stop on our four‑concert, 10‑day tour of the Maritimes, and we can’t wait to fill this remarkable community with the sound of Welsh harmony.

If you live in Nova Scotia, or have friends or family in the area, please share this post. We’d love to welcome them for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music, camaraderie, and Maritime hospitality.

We’re honoured to sing in such a breathtaking part of Canada — see you soon, Mahone Bay!

Say Hi and "Croeso" to our newest member, Ken Riley!
Ken is a real "basso profundo," and we're looking forward to having him boost those lower notes in the bass section.
He's a quick learner, so we're eager to make him part of the gang!🎼

🎶 Celebrating Our Friend and Chorister, Dr. Ray Freebury ❤️

Today we honour someone who has shaped the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir with heart, humour, and unwavering dedication.

Born and raised in Newport, South Wales, Ray carried the spirit of Welsh music and community with him throughout his life. After building a distinguished career as a psychiatrist, he brought that same compassion, insight, and steadiness to our choir family.

As a proud second tenor and a deeply committed member of our Board — serving for many years as Fundraising Director — Ray helped guide the choir through growth, challenges, and countless memorable seasons.

Ray has been bravely living with ALS for several years. When the choir regrouped after the pandemic, the progression of his illness meant he could no longer sing with us, but his connection to the TWMVC has never faded. Ray and his family have remained close, always part of our extended Welsh‑Canadian choir community.

Recently, a few of the lads travelled to Oakville to visit Ray and help him celebrate an extraordinary milestone — his 91st birthday. The afternoon was filled with stories, laughter, and that unmistakable camaraderie that Ray helped nurture over so many years.

Ray’s life — from Newport to Toronto, from medicine to music — is a testament to service, resilience, and the power of community.

Your choir brothers stand with you — in harmony, in friendship, and in gratitude. 🎂🎵❤️

What an evening we had yesterday at Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church — the very place where our music takes shape every Wednesday night. Performing in our rehearsal home felt truly special, and the audience made it unforgettable. Their enthusiasm filled the room, and the standing ovation at the end meant the world to the lads.

After the final chord, we were treated to wonderful post‑concert refreshments thanks to the generous and hard‑working team at Agricola. From there, we continued the celebration at our favourite spot, The Abbot Pub and Fare, long‑time supporters of the choir and a perfect place for a lively afterglow.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, and an extra‑special thanks to the amazing people at Agricola who organized and hosted this concert — our final performance before we head into our last three rehearsals and then off to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to begin our 10‑day Maritime tour.

The excitement is building, the voices are strong, and the journey ahead promises to be unforgettable. Diolch yn fawr to all who continue to support us.

As July approaches, the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is putting the finishing touches on our upcoming tour of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It’s been a labour of love — organizing concerts, coordinating travel, and building in free days so our choristers can truly experience the beauty of the Maritimes.

We’ve planned some incredible adventures along the way: kayaking on the coast, a local winery tour, a visit to Peggy’s Cove, and the unforgettable drive along the Cabot Trail. But what we’re most looking forward to is the camaraderie — the fun, the stories, the shared laughter that only happens when a choir travels together.

We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Robert Townsend and his team at Total Advantage Travel & Tours for their expertise, planning, and arranging all the details for flights, hotels, buses, and the fine details which make a tour successful, enjoyable, and worry-free.

And of course, we’re honoured to perform in venues rich with history and heart.

Here’s to a summer of music, friendship, and memories we’ll carry for years.

Our next concert is coming up on Saturday, May 30th, and it’s a special one — your last chance to see the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir before we head out on our 10‑day summer tour of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

We’re thrilled to be performing once again in a place that already feels like home. This venue is where we rehearse every week, shaping our sound, building our harmonies, and sharing plenty of laughter along the way. Bringing a full concert to this familiar space always feels meaningful for the lads.

It’s going to be a fabulous afternoon of music, energy, and choral four-part harmony.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and at the door, but as always, we recommend grabbing them early.

We can’t wait to sing for you before we take our music to the Maritimes this summer.
