Brazil Film Fest Toronto – A Special Screening for Filmberries' Young Filmmakers!

I’ve got ghis letter from Brazil Film Festival - TIFF Bell Lightbox Brazil Film Festival - TIFF Bell Lightbox

Hi Ekaterina,

My name is Leandro Matos, and I'm the Artistic Director of Brazil Film Fest Toronto. I'm reaching out because we're screening a film next weekend that I think could be a particularly fun fit for Filmberries' young filmmakers and their families.

On Sunday, October 11 at 11:00 AM at TIFF Lightbox, we're screening The Crime Genius, a Brazilian mystery-adventure based on one of Brazil's most beloved children's novels.

The story follows a group of young friends who find themselves caught up in a mystery and decide to investigate it themselves. Set against the excitement of the World Cup, it combines clues, friendship, soccer, humour and adventure — with some of the kid-led spirit of movies like The Goonies and classic young-detective stories.

When I saw that Filmberries Studio gives kids the opportunity to write, act, direct and produce their own films, I immediately thought this could be a wonderful screening to share with your students. There's something particularly exciting about watching a movie at TIFF Lightbox when you're already learning how movies are created yourself.

There's also a great storytelling connection: The Crime Genius is an adaptation of a book that generations of Brazilian children have grown up reading, bringing a beloved piece of children's literature from page to screen.

The film is in Portuguese with English subtitles, so we recommend it particularly for kids around 10+ who are comfortable reading subtitles.

And because it's screening on Thanksgiving Sunday morning, we thought it could make for a fun family outing before Thanksgiving lunches and celebrations later in the day.

If you think it might be of interest, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could share the screening with Filmberries students and their families.

Thank you so much for considering it. We'd love to welcome some of Filmberries' young filmmakers to Brazil Film Fest Toronto!

Warmly,

Leandro Matos.

Filmberries’ Museum of Vintage Cameras, collected over three decades, is now on display at the studio!

Our collection features cameras from different eras of photography and filmmaking, offering a glimpse into how images and movies were created before the digital age.

The next time you come to class, be sure to ask Ms. Kate about the collection and discover some fascinating pieces of photographic history!

FALL 2026 SCHEDULE UPDATE

As our programs continue to grow, we have updated our registration and payment policy for the upcoming school year:
• Tuition is $150 per month, per child, for each once-a-week class. Shorter weeks will be pro-rated.
• Monthly tuition reserves your child’s spot in the program and remains the same regardless of attendance.
• If a child misses a class, a make-up session will be offered on a Saturday at the end of the month whenever possible.
• Payments are due at the beginning of each month.

This system helps us maintain consistent class sizes, plan materials and activities in advance, and ensure that every child has a reserved place in the program throughout the year.

If you would like to register your child for Fall 2026 or later in the year 2026-2027 or have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for being part of the Filmberries community. I look forward to another creative year of filmmaking, animation, photography, comics, and arts & crafts with your children!
Warm regards,
Ekaterina Ionova
