On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Scarborough Food Security Forum was hosted by the Hon. Michael Coteau, MP for Scarborough–Woburn, at Global Kingdom Ministries.
Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Vicar and Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Armenian Church, accompanied by Deacon Sarven Bicakci, and Mrs. Maro Kochinyan of Barev Centre, joined the other leaders and frontline workers from food banks, healthcare organizations, schools, faith communities, businesses, and non-profit organizations, in meaningful discussions about the growing reality of food insecurity in Scarborough and explored practical, community-based solutions.
The Honorable Michael Coutou expressed his sincere gratitude to Fr. Zareh for his active participation in interfaith initiatives and his dedicated involvement in local social and public life.
We were pleased to share the Holy Trinity Armenian Church’s and Barev Centre's vision: that dignified access to nourishing food strengthens families and brings communities closer together. Through the forum's panel discussions and working groups, new opportunities for collaboration were identified, including youth employment and volunteer initiatives, community gardens, and improved connections between Canadian-Armenian families and local food resources.
A heartfelt thank you to MP Michael Coteau and to the Global Kingdom Ministry for hosting this event as well as to all the partners around the table, including Holy Trinity Armenian Church, Daily Bread Food Bank, the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities, and Malvern Family Resource Centre.
The feedback gathered will contribute to broader conversations surrounding Canada's national food strategy, and we are proud that our community's voice was part of this important dialogue.
