Nigel Scott, 1955 – 2026
Celebration of Life
Friday, September 25, 2026
7 PM @ Liberty Grand

Come join us for a great party to celebrate the life of Nigel Scott.

Nigel’s close friend, filmmaker Don Allan, is generously hosting a special evening at the Liberty Grand. It promises to be a wonderful night.

Don has organized an exhibition of Nigel’s work and a silent auction to help establish the Nigel Scott Scholarship at OCAD University.

Join us for drinks and hors d’oeuvres as we celebrate Nigel’s remarkable career and lasting contribution to photography.

I met Nigel in 1986 at his exhibition at the Peter Pan restaurant. We went on to have many exhibitions together over the decades—the rest is history. I’ll share a little of our story and pay tribute to Nigel’s life and work as one of our city’s great photographers.

Come celebrate one of Toronto’s great talents and help us honour his legacy.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Happy birthday, Sharon Switzer!

A visionary in digital art, Switzer explores how we use and depend on media technologies to construct meaning. Distinctly personal and often infused with wit, Switzer’s practice is driven by a unique voice and a sense of whimsy, focusing on the simple, honest, and grounding moments that shape everyday life.

Corkin Gallery is saddened by the passing of David Hockney, an artist that we admire and have followed throughout his career. David was a source of inspiration for many in the art world, including great photographers that the gallery has represented over the decades, including Francesco Scavullo, Arnold Newman, Herb Ritts, and Cecil Beaton. We honour his life by sharing these portraits of the artist.

Nigel Scott, 1955 – 2026

Corkin Gallery is saddened by the passing of Nigel Scott.

Born in Jamaica, Nigel Scott left Toronto in 1987 for Paris, where he quickly gained recognition when one of his iconic images became the cover of City: Magazine International. From Kingston to Toronto, Paris, Tokyo, and New York, Nigel built an artistic career. An avid surfer, Scott lived in cities that afforded him proximity to the sea. His photographs, cyanotypes, and blue paintings reflect his connection to water and are held in collections worldwide.

Corkin Gallery mourns the loss of a remarkable photographer and artist. We share this sorrow with Nigel’s family, friends, and the wider art world.

In celebration of Earth Day, we are proud to present a body of work by environmental photographer

In this series—Iceland, 2017—the artist ventures into a remote location to reveal subtle signs of human intervention. The images bear his signature style: elongated views that transport the viewer into the scene. Holownia’s close observation of the natural world reveals both the mundane and the profound.

Holownia has spent his career celebrating the environment. A dedicated observer, he has worked extensively in the marshes of New Brunswick, followed salmon migration routes across North America, and paid homage to Henry David Thoreau.

Holownia immerses himself in the same landscapes, returning repeatedly to photograph the changes in the environment shaped by both natural forces and the human imprint on the land.

Thaddeus Holwonia is the 2025 recipient of the Governor’s General award. To inquire further,

Happy Birthday to 🌟
Gertler translates his background in architecture and design into a visual arts practice rooted in cultural and technological discourse.

In his digital collages, Gertler reworks found imagery of landscapes and geological formations, and communities to create constructed images that invite the viewer to consider new world orders. The elegant but confounding images propose alternative realities, where the historied iconographies of the East and West meet.
