AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives

AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives Each initiative will reinstate the power of arts and the Black community's connection to their ancestral roots to improve the future.

Building off of the illustrated vision of Carnegie Hall's first-ever commission art piece by interstellar artivist and visual griot Quentin VerCetty in 2020-2021. AstroSankofa Arts Initiative is an artist collective and nonprofit organization that aims to expand imaginations with creative exploration of the connection to the past, present and future through the West African concept of sankofa. The

practice of this is called “Sankofanology.” Sankofanology is at the heart of the organization's work as it relates to Afrofuturism, which centres stories and practices toward the healing, growth, evolution and exponential potential of people of African descent. As a collective and not-for-profit organization, the aim is to provide diverse opportunities for creatives to share their artistic gifts within various community settings both in public art and web3 multi-metaverses. The initiatives include but are not limited to the curation and production of exhibitions, public art installation productions, conventions and panels, and Web3 interventions such as non-fungible token projects and metaverse expeditions. AstroSankofa Arts Initiative is the steward of the Black Speculative Arts Movement Canada ®©™ activities and events, founded and coined by Quentin VerCetty in 2016. AstroSankofa Arts Initiative will continue to build with the national network of associated Black Speculative Arts Movement artists throughout Canada and the international branch chapters and communities associated. The innovation of what we bring forward adds spectacular feats for the Black Speculative Arts Movement in Canada.

On June 28th, Sunday, AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives is honoured to join artists, cultural workers, community members, and friends in celebrating the life, art, and legacy of the late Ato Seitu.

Ato was more than an artist—he was an artivist, educator, storyteller, and visionary whose work reminded us that art has the power to uplift communities, preserve culture, and advance social change. His commitment to dignity, identity, and collective humanity helped shape Toronto's cultural landscape and inspired generations of artists to create with purpose.

As an organization rooted in public art, cultural memory, and community empowerment, we recognize the pathways that pioneers like Ato helped create. We are proud to support this gathering and contribute to an evening dedicated to honouring a life that continues to inspire creativity, courage, and community.

Join us as we celebrate a remarkable legacy through art, music, storytelling, spoken word, and reflection.

Our 6th mural for the 6ix
🌻✨ Resilience In Bloom ✨🌺

Located at Inglenook Community School, Resilience In Bloom transforms a once-empty wall into a vibrant celebration of growth, belonging, and collective strength.

Inspired by the legacy of Lucie and Thornton Blackburn, the mural uses a flourishing garden of symbolic flowers to honour the diverse communities that continue to shape Toronto. The Hibiscus represents the African Diaspora, the Ontario Trillium acknowledges First Nations peoples, the Coneflower symbolizes Métis resilience, while the Sunflower and Mint speak to hope, healing, renewal, and the power of community.

Created by Charles Boloebi Okah () with support from Henry Ngama (scofy | Visual muralist) and produced by AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives, this mural reminds us that resilience is not the absence of struggle, but the ability to grow through it.

Like the students who pass by each day, every flower reaches toward the light.

Courageous. Resilient. Visionary.
The legacy of the Blackburns. The spirit of Inglenook. The promise of future generations to grow forward, together.

It was great to connect with the students and teachers from the school and getting the chance to hear from them and here their content with the mural

An Official Community Partner of Blockchain Futurist Conference by ! 🚀

AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives is proud to return for our 4th year as an Official Community Partner of Canada’s longest-running Web3 event, taking place July 21–22, 2026 in Toronto.

This year, our team will once again be contributing to the conversation through a featured panel discussion exploring creativity, culture, Afrofuturism, and emerging technologies. We will also be showcasing select NFT and digital art projects that explore how storytelling, public art, and speculative futures can intersect within Web3 spaces.

As an organization committed to expanding opportunities for Black artists and introducing marginalized communities to emerging technologies, we are excited to help bridge the worlds of public art, spatial media, blockchain innovation, and cultural preservation.

🌟 Join us to explore the future of Web3, AI, DeFi, digital ownership, and more.
