Meet the other half of the Drug Huggers team, one of two shows in our double bill!

Christopher Cruz ​was born and bred in the heart of Toronto. He graduated from the Theatre Performance Program at Humber College, aspiring to create art that is a deliberate provocation for change.

Credits: The Stranger (DOPOLAVOROTEATRALE), Delete After Death (TALKALOT Collective), Clown Circus (Dean Gilmour & Michele Smith), To me in 10 Years (Richard Greenblatt), The Park (Diana Belshaw).

Christopher is also a freestyle rapper, beatboxer, dancer, spoken word artist, and musician. His art seeks to dismantle the system, examine the system, and re­create the system; as a Torontonian born into the system.

Introducing one of the creators behind the first piece in our double bill, theatrical mixtape "Drug Huggers"!

Maddie Bautista is a Saudi Arabia ­born Filipino theatre maker and performance artist. Recent credits: Girl in My Nightmares Wear White (SummerWorks 2016 ­ Spotlight Award for Performance), Norelle in Plum BOMB (Paprika Festival 2016). Upcoming: Hannah in Paradise Comics (Filament Incubator).

She is also a musician and sound designer. Credits include Dead Roads (RISER 2016), and The Tartan Lady (Sundown Theatre).

Maddie is obsessed with form+content+bizarre performance. Her and Jordan Campbell formed xLq, a body of POP ART performance creation. Works: the birth of xLq ­ a POP ART performance ritual, and 4inXchange – a POP ART business meeting.

The work she creates is centred around the Asian, q***r, and immigrant experience. She was a member of Carlos Bulosan Theatre’s Tagsibol Collective ­ making work for Filipino­Canadians.

She is committed to creating work for survivors of sexual assault through her solo show Jeddahwi ­ developed at Humber College.
