Bureau Of Power And Light (BPL) is an art collective dedicated to cultivating creative energies for positive social impact. We produce multi-media artworks to foster empathy and cultivate positive social impact. We create original content and engage in meaningful collaborations to elevate diverse stories through music, film, visual arts, live performance, digital media and public art. Our projects

include ArtHouseTO, Geoff Doner Music, Butterfly Effect Mural, Community Crisis-Mutual Aid-Activist Resources For The GTA interactive resource, The Snowlion Club (documentary co-produced with CBC Arts), Light For Freedom (short film and live immersive theatre event), Tibetans Of Toronto Cultural Festival, Reclaim Tibet Art Exhibition, Time Travellers: The Art Of Tashi Norbu Art Exhibition, In Light Of Death (3 hour-long live improvised musical performance). BPL was established in 2015 by partners Andrea Battersby and Geoff Doner, based in downtown Toronto, Canada.

We landed in our beloved live/work storefront in Riverdale following renoviction during Covid. Over the last 5 years we have cultivated community through Art activations in the storefront and a curated, burgeoning online Hub where the Arts and Social Justice intersect. This space is an important Cultural Hub to the neighbourhood, the city and online communities. Space is integral to offering a media production studio, event and learning space, and our home. Our programming and partnerships have momentum and are having impact that is not reflected in the financial health of the project YET!

We truly believe we are mere steps away from making partnerships and adopting a model to have the ability to Retain, Sustain and Grow our impact.

Locally and globally, citizens are reaching out to us rather than individual social impact orgs working in silos, or conventional mainstream news because we are cultivating a direct, co-curated platform of expression committed to connecting with and listening to storytellers on the ground.

amplifies stories people need to share right now and contributes to conveying news from the citizen epicenter of happenings. goes where mainstream won’t go.
Instagram has been honoured with requests from a growing number of fellow artists, activists and citizens who are in search of a safe place to meaningfully connect with each other, share stories and information relevant to understanding diverse perspectives on major issues and, most importantly, how to get actively involved.

To date, all ArtHouseTO projects have been created, maintained and funded by our 2 Co-Creators and and in order to maintain, sustain, and grow our impact, we need your help! If you aren’t able to contribute, no worries! Please SHARE!

Today, we are experiencing an acute surge in requests for support, amplification, and a safe place to share stories key to understanding diverse perspectives on major issues.

Expansion of capacity is required in order to sustain the signature practice of amplifying Arts and Social Actions with the degree of care and focus relied upon by communities we serve. Additionally, resources are needed to sustain and expand our real-time responsiveness.

‘NEW LIFE’ Music Video Re-Release!

Join us to celebrate the one-year anniversary of video for his single ‘NEW LIFE’!!

On the heels of his latest ep ‘Place In The Sun’, .productions is proud to re-release this epic track to a wider audience.

The video cycles through alternate cinematic realities featuring ‘The Nemophilist’, a fluent haunter of the woods, moving through lush landscapes in relationship with nature. Counter to the Nemophilist’s contemplative dance are ‘The Automatons’, diminished figures struggling to remain connected to their humanity in the face of a hostile environment.

As ‘The Nemophilist’, Director & Editor Mikela Jay embedded her character in the abundant forest landscapes in unceded territory off the West Coast of BC, pairing her love of movies from the silent era and arthouse films to create a fundamentally contemporary feel. Meanwhile in Toronto, Geoff Doner and Andrea Battersby captured themselves performing as ‘The Automatons’, drawing on iconic punk and goth stylings from the 1980’s. Throughout this psychotronic video, manually-operated kinetic lighting animates shadowy apparitions that represent true horrors being revealed globally and locally.

Walls meant to divide and diminish our collective social fabric are being toppled everywhere. Walls that have hidden and protected us from painful truths are bound to crumble, freeing us to see ourselves and others with more empathy.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Sunday to help me mark the launch of this new artistic chapter! It was a wonderful day full of chats about art over iced tea :) Check the great pics of some of the peeps that joined us :)

Experiencing different times through works that were created in past workspaces, like festooned photo assemblages, and that depict former studios, like the heavily textured and hot orange painting series, stirs feelings of warm attachment. I am reminded of why I have fought so hard to maintain space that accommodates creative production, sometimes at the cost of all else.

The unwrapping and unearthing of prior works and previously stored materials continues and I look forward to what emerges to effect current conversations with my work, and applying new perspectives to future works.

My intention is to scale up my drawing cycle Drill Site in terms of materials and time, explore more performance and videoworks, and collaborate with artists and communities.

Here at ArtHouseTO headquarters, we learn alot each time we reconfigure the storefront PopUp space to accommodate specific projects. We look forward to being able to offer a safe and celebratory platform for making new connections, exemplifying the flourishing community at ArtHouseTO on Instagram .
