Scarborough Music Theatre is excited to announce our Information Night & Auditions for A Man of No Importance, a funny, moving and deeply human musical from the award-winning writers of Ragtime and Anastasia.

🇮🇪 Dublin. 1964.

Alfie Byrne is a bus conductor, poet, Oscar Wilde devotee and passionate amateur theatre director who brings his community together to put on a play. Along the way, Alfie and those around him discover the courage to embrace love, identity, acceptance and the extraordinary beauty found in ordinary lives.

Filled with Irish wit, warmth, humour and heart, a gorgeous Irish-inspired score and unforgettable characters, A Man of No Importance is one of musical theatre’s best-kept secrets.

And this is truly an ENSEMBLE show!

We’re looking for performers from young adults to seasoned character actors, with opportunities for leading roles, fantastic character parts, memorable comedic turns and an ensemble at the heart of the story.

From the award-winning writers of Ragtime and Anastasia, A Man of No Importance is a funny, moving, and deeply human musical filled with unforgettable characters and a soaring Irish-inspired score.

Set in 1960s Dublin, the story follows Alfie Byrne, a bus conductor, poet, and passionate amateur theatre director, as he brings his community together to stage an Oscar Wilde play. Along the way, he and those around him discover the courage to embrace love, identity, acceptance, and the extraordinary beauty found in ordinary lives.
