Every book begins as a fragment of a feeling.
A memory you can’t shake.
A question that refuses to stay quiet.

These collections were written during moments of reflection, uncertainty, curiosity, grief, inspiration, and growth — and each one captures a different piece of that journey.

Whether you’re searching for poetry that resonates emotionally, stories that drift into the surreal, or writing that sits with you long after the final page, I hope these works find the readers who need them most.

📖 Now available on Amazon & Kindle:
• The Fragile Light of Happiness
• Generational Echoes
• Tales from a Midnight Caprice
• Ghost Frequencies

What I’m Reading

This month my nightstand is crowded with three very different voices:

📖 Love is a Dog from Hell — Charles Bukowski
Raw, unfiltered, and unexpectedly tender beneath the rough edges. Bukowski has a way of finding poetry in places most people overlook.

📖 The Trouble with Being Born — E.M. Cioran
Sharp, cynical, and endlessly quotable. Reading Cioran feels like staring into an abyss that occasionally smirks back at you.

📖 A Graveyard for Lunatics — Ray Bradbury
A strange and delightful blend of mystery, nostalgia, and Hollywood dreamscape. Bradbury remains a reminder that imagination can be both whimsical and profound.

If you’ve read any of these—or have recommendations of your own—I’d love to hear from you.

Today I’m revisiting Jester the Ox, one of the more unusual stories I’ve written—and one with an equally unusual origin.

The entire tale was inspired by a single hand in the card game Quiddler. A random collection of letters sparked an idea, and before long those letters had transformed into an ox named Jester, a world for him to inhabit, and a story all his own.

I’ve always loved how creativity works that way. Sometimes inspiration arrives through grand experiences, and sometimes it emerges from something as simple as a handful of cards spread across a table.

Looking back, I think Jester the Ox became a story about being underestimated. Beneath the humor, eccentricity, and playful absurdity was a character who embodied a truth I’ve returned to often in my writing: wisdom rarely arrives in the form we expect. Sometimes it wears bells on its head, makes everyone laugh, and quietly understands more than anyone realizes.

It’s a reminder that stories can come from anywhere—even a game night.

Have you ever had a completely random moment unexpectedly inspire something creative?

What is freedom worth?

In a universe that offers no guarantees, no justice, and no exemption from suffering, perhaps freedom is not something we are given at all. Perhaps it is something we purchase—again and again—with our pride.

My latest prose piece, The Coin of Defiance, explores pride not as vanity, but as rebellion: the stubborn refusal to let fate, despair, or meaninglessness have the final word.

Read it now on Justin LeDuc Writes.

Some stories are written for an audience. This one was written for one little girl.

My cousin's daughter, Ellie, is one of those children who carries wonder wherever she goes. She loves dragons, and like most kids her age, she sees the world as a place where impossible things might still be hiding just around the corner.

One day I found myself thinking about her and imagining what it would be like to experience a story through her eyes. Not as a side character. Not as someone watching from the sidelines. As the hero.

So I wrote a fairy tale for my cousin to read to her.

As I worked on it, I couldn't help smiling at the thought of the moment she would realize the brave young adventurer with the fiery red hair wasn't just inspired by her—it was her. The little girl listening to the story would suddenly become the one standing against darkness, befriending dragons, and saving an enchanted kingdom.

There's something beautiful about childhood. For a brief time, imagination isn't an escape from reality; it feels like a part of reality itself. If a story can help a child see a little more courage, kindness, and magic in themselves, then I think it's done its job.

Ellie and the Brave Dragon began as a gift for one little girl, but I'd love to share it with anyone who still believes that friendship, courage, and a little bit of wonder can change the world.

Two years ago this month, I shared a poem called You Can't Deny the Golden Times.

It was written from a simple observation: that there are moments when the world feels larger than our worries. A warm breeze, birdsong, sunlight on your skin, the quiet realization that you're connected to something beyond yourself.

Yet the poem was never only about peace. It was also about how fleeting those moments can be. How we touch something timeless for an instant before retreating back into our names, our fears, and our endless search for identity.

Looking back, I still find myself returning to that final image of a grain of sand calling out for its identity against the vastness of the shore. Perhaps that's part of being human: forever suspended between belonging to everything and wanting to be something distinct.

June 2024 feels both distant and strangely close.

What are some of your own "golden times" that have stayed with you?

Step into a fleeting moment of wonder. A single streetlamp cuts through the rain-slicked night, illuminating a weathered journal left open on a bench. One page holds a messy sketch of a bird in flight. On the other, just two words: "Found wings." Who left it? Where did they go? A thousand stories begin in the silence between those pages. This is the power of micro-fiction—small spaces holding vast worlds.

✨ Flashback Friday ✨

Two years ago, I shared a poem titled Clouds Like Valleys — a meditation on drifting skies, shifting light, and the quiet stories written above us.

Looking back on it now, I’m reminded how nature has a way of reflecting the parts of ourselves we can’t always put into words. The clouds still move, the seasons still change, and somehow the poem feels just as alive today as when it was first written.

If you’ve never read it before, or if it’s been a while since your last visit, I invite you to return to Clouds Like Valleys and lose yourself in its atmosphere once more.

Sometimes the old pieces still carry new meaning. ☁️
