In his latest series of paintings, Connor Smith shifts his focus from the vast, open wilderness to the intimate, vibrant spaces of the interior world. While his previous work explored reimagined natural landscapes, this collection brings the viewer inside, blurring the boundary between the sanctuary of the home and the vibrant energy of the outdoors.

Through doors and open windows, glimpses of bold, colourful landscapes break into quiet domestic spaces. Inside, ordinary rooms become charged with a dreamlike vitality: sketchbook drawings catch the wind and float across a bedroom, a clock and coloued pencils sit bathed in light on a living room table, and everyday keys and fruit bowls ground the compositions. Smith’s interiors are not static or confined; they are alive with memory, creativity, and movement.

This series employs a bold, vivid palette and heavily textured, visible brush marks that infuse the domestic scenes with a pulsing, psychological energy. By layering thick, expressive strokes, Smith invites viewers to see the home not just as a physical space, but as an emotional landscape where the inner life and the outside world brightly collide.

last week was BLANK SPACE 001, and the room said everything. 🖤

we built this knowing that toronto’s emerging artists deserve more than a moment.. they deserve a room that takes them seriously. thanks to our community, they had one.

to every collaborator, every artist who trusted us with their work, every person who showed up, and every person who stayed until the end, thank you for making this real.

BLANK SPACE 002 is coming. 👀
