Meet our Director of Photography and Video Editor of Thank U, Ex
Kareen Mallon 🎥 Kareen is a Toronto based LGBTQ content creator, photographer and
director with the Directors Guild of Canada. Kareen graduated from Sheridan’s
Applied Photography program with honours in 2010. Kareen spent a few years
working with the Stratovate Group directing narrative films for corporations that
wanted to capture a cinematic approach to their brand.
Recently Kareen has stepped away from corporate work to focus more on
Television, Short Films and Music Videos. She has worked as a DOP on the 2019
Short Asking Price, and 2019 Short The Commands with Actor and Writer Ryan
Ali of the film The Humming Bird Project. In 2020 Kareen had the opportunity
of directing the following bodies of work. My Perfect Landing (Netflix), music
video Sixth Sense by Kristen Renee.
This year Kareen has Directed and Produced the following bodies of work Won’t
(W.T.D) music video by Sean Reyes, Room 401, film short currently in Post-
Production with Alex Chiu Productions. Kareen has also worked as a
cinematographer and video editor on the following projects in 2021 Thank U Ex
(Daisy Productions) and the fashion short Elements, which is currently showing
in the Venice Fashion Film Festival.
In 2013 Kareen was awarded Best New Rock Indie Video in Los Angeles for her
direction and production of the Sean Reyes music video Just Another.
When not directing Kareen works with fellow directors as a stills photographer
for BTS. She has captured imagery for the 2012 short Miss Familiar, 2013 A Man
Is a Man Is a Man. Most recently in 2020 the award winning film Things I Do
For Money (Shoot Good Films) and 2021’s Scavengers in Post Production.
Her work has focused on Q***r representation in media and films including her work in 2015 as DOP for TV Series Documentary She’s the Man, showcased on Out Spoken TV. Through her experiences in the LGBTQ community Kareen is currently writing her first feature film Life as a Pair, which dives into the struggles of a youth facing the ideals of society and the hidden desires of her own.
