In memory of

Louise Hiegel
January 10, 1930 - May 31, 2026

Louise Hiegel (b. Aloisia Sattmann) was born January 10, 1930 on a small German family farm in former Groß Tajax, Czechoslovakia. She was the youngest of six siblings, and at 96, reached the oldest age amongst them.
She was displaced from her idyllic farm life after WW2, came of age in Austria, and later started a family in Canada.

She was a skilled and industrious seamstress, upholsterer quilter, knitter, milk-bag weaver, mender and all practical home-arts. Many of her creations where made with the intention to increase the comfort of animals at the pound and under-resourced communities abroad. She approached all tasks with pride, she beat cancer with the same steadfast determination with which she lived her life. She loved her family, her many pets, winning at Bingo, pragmatic internet hacks and blasting german AM radio. Her stark sense of humour and her relentless, unflappable attitude remained until her final days.

She will be missed by her son Fred, her daughter Mary Lou, her grandchildren Mark, Arielle, and Shael, and her great-grandchildren Charlotte and Amelia, as well as her extended family and friends in Canada and in Austria.

Her Celebration of life will be on Saturday, June 13th at 12pm at the Association of Danube Swabians, 1686 Ellesmere Rd, Scarborough, ON M1H 2V5

We miss her terribly since moving to an assisted living facility but we think of her often. From her Donauschwaben family many years of health and happiness with her family.
