Come celebrate with Doris McCarthy Gallery] and myself as we hold a closing ceremony for this exhibition that changed my life.

Over the course of two years, so many beautiful things have come out of this project: awards, impactful programming, and nationwide recognition.

The end of this month marks 13 YEARS since I first decided to pick up a camera and start making images. It’s been 8 years since I decided to quit my job and pursue this as a career path. I can’t believe how quickly time can fly!!

Since then, I’ve worked with everyone that you see on this list and more. I’ve had/been a part of 30+ public art exhibitions, featured in 35+ publications, won multiple awards all while being in and serving community.

I want to say thank you to everyone that believes and supports what I offer to the world. I know that I’m incredibly lucky and thank God everyday.

If you’re reading this still, don’t let anyone or anything stop you from pursuing what you feel is your passion. In the same breath, there are people who don’t support me/doubt my ability, there are people who try to limit/restrict what I do and there are people who take advantage of my kindness. It’s not always sweet.

I’m here for whatever comes with this journey that I’m on because you only lose when you quit.

TRANSPARENCY-

One of my biggest fears in life is not valuing/utilizing the time that’s been given to me. When I start reflecting on my life experiences, I want to say that I did everything that I desired to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

Time flies over us and leaves its shadow behind.

Film journal 🎞

I’m really enjoying taking a break from shooting digital and focusing on film these days. Everything slows down dramatically while the run and gun energy dissipates. All you’re left with is the moment and the person in front of the camera.

To anyone going through something right now; In the darkest times is when your light can shine the brightest.

When I think about what I had to go through, I’m always thankful when I look back because it made space for me to become the person that I am today.

I wouldn’t trade that for anything else.

SCARBOROUGH LOVE,

wrote a book chapter on love as a critical methodology in curatorial practice. The timing is perfect because I was just having a conversation the other day about how sacred the relationship feels between the artist and curator.

It’s an honour to have this image in this publication next to this text.
