Clay and Paper Theatre

Clay and Paper Theatre Clay & Paper Theatre produces plays, pageants & spectacles in public space, with & for the community. Did we also mention that we want to change the world?

We are a Toronto theatre company that works exclusively in public space. We're a small band of insurgent puppeteers and artists asking big questions with humour and irreverence. Completely. Irrevocably. Oh, and, Clay and Paper Theatre is not funny and is never serious.

WORKSHOP: Create a sun-printed image from leaves, flowers, and found objects with Cyanotype Printmaking. These printed banners will then be part of the Night of Dread installation, The Garden of Tomorrow Today on our Pageant night, Saturday, October 24th. There are four 90-minute workshop sessions to choose from on October 17 & 18. Click on the link to choose your session and to register for this workshop: https://www.clayandpapertheatre.ca/workshops -workshops

In this hands-on workshop with Clay and Paper Theatre artist-facilitators, you'll explore the cyanotype process and create a variety of fabric banners. Cyanotype is one of photography's oldest processes: a sun-sensitive blue print made without a camera, using only light, water, and whatever you gather from the world around you.

You'll arrange grasses, leaves, flowers, and dried plants onto treated fabric. We'll also have pre-cut images and letters available so you can form words and messages. Feel free to bring your own organic finds from your garden or neighbourhood, or join us for a walk through Dufferin Grove Park to gather leaves, branches, twigs, and other materials together.

Your print will become part of The Garden of Tomorrow Today, an installation of hanging banners for Night of Dread. In a time marked by isolation and division, we want to make something that grows our hopes and inspires community action and solidarity.

No experience necessary. All materials provided. Please note that this is a non-toxic process.

This workshop is suitable for families, adults and teens. It is recommended that kids be 10 and older. NOTE: Children must have an adult with them to work together to create their cyanotype print.

IT'S OPEN. 🎉 The Puppetry Exchange opened its doors in Kensington Market last Saturday.

Clay and Paper Theatre has been a proud member of the Raucous Caucus Collective for over 20 years - puppeteers sharing resources, talking shop, and working through the challenges of keeping this art form alive in Toronto. And now - in a new exciting endeavour together - the Raucous Caucus is thrilled to spearhead a new hub for puppetry in the heart of Toronto - at 219 Augusta Ave at The Puppetry Exchange!

Puppetry has never had a central space in the Toronto performing arts scene. Now, at The Puppetry Exchange, we hope to change that and give puppetry a home and a future with workshops, talks, residencies and so much more.

Clay and Paper Theatre is proud to stand behind this space alongside our Raucous Caucus partners: the Puppetmongers, Shadowland Theatre, and Jumblies Theatre and Arts.

To everyone who came out to celebrate with us - thank you.

The Puppetry Exchange is made possible with support from the Emerald Foundation and the Toronto Arts Council.
