The Ever Emerging Artist Program (EEAP) is a new training and mentorship initiative from Volcano, lead by Program Director Lisa Karen Cox, and Program Coordinator Ashlee Marcus. Applications close Sunday, July 19! Link in bio

Lisa’s interdisciplinary practice centers inclusive performance pedagogies; decolonial, equity-driven practices; and creating cross disciplinary live performances with q***r and global majority artists. Dedicated to the intersection of embodiment, live performance, storytelling, music and heightened language, with a career spanning over two decades, Lisa crafts bold narratives that prioritize both artistic excellence and artist agency. For Volcano, Lisa has consulted, taught for the Volcano Conservatory, participated in the panel discussions, been a part of the assessment panel for our OAC Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators, and acted as part of the dramaturgical group for The Agreements.

Ashlee is a multidisciplinary artist, administrator, and technician who has been active in the Toronto performing arts community for many years. She has had the opportunity to contribute to such organizations as Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Sankofa Square, Harbourfront Centre, Canadian Stage, and the 401 Richmond.

EEAP will bring together a dynamic cohort of cross-disciplinary performance creators to explore the realities of modern touring. Designed to develop creators and producers of live performance, this program bridges the gap between creating live performance and touring live performance. Participants will engage in workshops covering a range of topics including: world building, dramaturgy, design principles, basic production skills, budgeting, marketing and negotiating contracts.

A circus arrives at the edge of a city.
A tightrope stretches across the dark.
For a moment, anything feels possible.

Volcano presents the first English language performance of Half of the Moon by Roland Schimmelpfennig, one of the most influential playwrights of our time. One night only - August 7 at 8pm at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance Mimi Herrndorf Studio Theatre.

This reading marks a continuation of a long artistic relationship between Schimmelpfennig and Ross Manson, who first introduced the German superstar’s work to Toronto at SummerWorks in 2004. Over two decades, their collaboration has shaped some of the city’s most memorable productions.

We are happy to announce the inaugural Ever Emerging Artist Program (EEAP). The EEAP is an Ontario-based incubator that equips multidisciplinary live artists with the practical skills, network, and business savvy needed to take their work on the road. The EEAP will bring together a dynamic cohort of cross-disciplinary performance creators to explore the realities of modern touring. Designed to develop the next wave of artist-producers, this program bridges the gap between artistic vision and independent ex*****on, empowering participants to thrive in a shifting global arts ecosystem.

The EEAP is open to live experience artists from all disciplines and backgrounds including but not limited to directors, creators, designers, performers, producers and technical/production artists. The only requirement is that applicants are mid-career live artists that have a project idea or concept that can be advanced through engagement with the program. Selected participants will be remunerated for their participation in the program.
