“She had done her homework on ME when I met her. I had directed several music videos for LeAnn Rimes, and she asked about specific shots from a video that LeAnn and I had done exclusively for the European market...we talked about a few ideas, and then started tossing ideas back and forth while shooting in her dressing room, and then exploring the spaces in the hallways + rooms just outside. I followed her to soundcheck, where, much like Springsteen, she went through her entire set, choreographing where she would be on stage at any given moment, where she would be looking, etc. Afterwards, we picked up where we left off, trying different ideas, etc until it was time for her to get ready to go onstage. ⁠

To no one’s surprise I’m sure, she is one of the most creative artists I’ve ever met - as well as one of the the most focused and driven. ⁠

Phish was founded in 1983 when freshman Trey Anastasio posted flyers around the University of Vermont Campus, looking for musicians to form a band.⁠

After that, it has been a steady climb from Burlington club band to rodeo-clown backing group to regional touring act to bigger clubs, and eventually theatres and arenas worldwide.⁠

The band signed with Elektra Entertainment in late 1991 and has sold more than 8 million albums and DVDs in the United States, including fourteen studio albums and a multitude of live shows.⁠

“I was shooting some pictures during the taping of Top of the Pops and had popped up to the rooftop bar during a break. Diana was sitting at a table talking to a reporter from The Melody Maker and I asked her if it was okay to take a few pictures of her while she was being interviewed. She smiled and said that it would be fine. After she left, the reporter suggested that I send some pictures to The Melody Maker, which I did never thinking that they would be used. The following Wednesday I saw the paper at my local newsstand and there was my photo on the front page along with my name credited, Wow! I got a call from Bob Houston, Melody Maker’s assistant editor a few days later offering me a job as chief freelance photographer, which I gladly accepted..thanks to Lady Diana Ross!”⁠
