There is no Company Theatre without Joseph Ziegler. You can’t produce A Whistle in the Dark without an extraordinary actor to play Dada. Joe was our only choice. He was a giant of Canadian theatre already. We were two young nobodies who had never produced anything. We approached him to do an informal reading thinking if he heard the play out loud he could be convinced to do it. The night of the reading, everyone arrived except for Joe. We called him, he had forgotten about it. He said he would rush over. He was very apologetic and felt so guilty. I think him feeling guilty for forgetting that night is why he agreed to do the production. Thank God for that. Joe’s Dada was one of the most incredible performances I’ve ever witnessed. That production and specifically his performance is what launched Company Theatre and allowed us to be a company and not just a one off production. His impact on us cannot be overstated and is only a tiny fraction of the overall impact he had on Canadian theatre. He was truly one of the greatest ever. We love you Joe. You will be missed but never forgotten. ❤️

Canadian Theatre lost one of our greats this week. RIP to the great Gary Reineke. This is a pic of Gary in our production of Festen in 2008. Gary had already done it all by then and yet graciously agreed to be part of our production. He embraced our wild process with the curiosity and playfulness of an actor just out of theatre school. His work in the show was always alive, authentic and generous. He will be greatly missed but we will always be proud that he was part of our company. We love you Gary ❤️
