We are very much enjoying the new(ish) Lichen and Lace Colour of Month program!

Each month we get a shipment of ten skeins of their 80/20 Sock Yarn in that month's colour and it's a total surprise each time we open the box!

This month's feature colourway is "Faded Jade." Perfect for a summer that feels like it's already on its way out, this colourway smacks of flip flops on the beach, sunscreen at the park, and a cool drink on a patio.

New to YU, Second Cashmere's reclaimed cashmere mending yarn!

We fell head over heels in love with Second Cashmere's mission, and we know you will too. They rescue secondhand cashmere garments, which would otherwise be mouldering in landfills, and give them a second life. Some are candidates for repair, some are made into accessories, and some of the yarn becomes this mending and repair thread that is perfectly suited to fix up your own cashmere pieces.

It's available in a wide range of colours with a focus on creamy neutrals so popular with cashmere wear. We are pumped to see what you will do with this thread, maybe it'll make it into some embroidery projects as well!

Alison (with finishing by Laura) knit up this cozy Manhattan Hat in Riverside Studio Merino Singles Worsted. The colourway is our very own special "Kensington" shade combo, only available from YU!

While this colourway makes a great pair of socks on Riverside's sock yarn, we think this hat is equally awesome (and a quicker knit, for sure).

🧶Every June we celebrate public crafting. No longer do we hide our WIPs in our bags on the subway, at the cafe, or the movies!

Real talk, it seems it's been a while since any of us were really too shy to knit or crochet in public, but when I was a brand new Torontonian, I certainly kept my projects out of sight on the TTC. I was afraid of drawing too much attention to myself! But eventually, I realized lots of folks knit and crocheted while en route and no one even looked twice.

This Saturday, you can be that shining model of creativity for another shy young thing who would rather knit than look at her phone or has trouble focusing on a conversation without their hook in hand. 🧶

A closeup of our latest FO, a Willow Cowl (pattern by Amelia and free from us in-store with any purchase of sock yarn).

So cool to see how the colours pooled for a while at the beginning and then the decreases distributed the colours a little differently resulting in skinny little stripes!

You never quite know exactly where the colours will land with a multicoloured hand-dyed yarn like this. We like striping it with a solid colour for larger garments, or even striping two skeins against each other to force the pools to dispel.

Thanks to Lichen & Lace for this incredible custom colourway "Nassau"! We love it :)
