Philadelphia based post-punk artist Johnny Dynamite has emerged as a succinct storyteller and songwriter. Over the course of his first three albums, the characters inside Johnny’s dream world are lucid, manic, and brimming with pangs of nostalgia. Poised against dark and atmospheric instrumentals, his harrowed vocal delivery and lyrics paint a picture of lost youth, hopeless romanticism, and teenage rebellion.

Dynamite blends many different genres and connects the dots between different pockets of subculture; equal parts glossy new wave and anthemic rock n’ roll. Johnny’s signature beat centric production style incorporates hard hitting drum machines, 80’s style guitar riffs and ethereal retro synth patches. His sound has been compared to legacy acts such as Pet Shop Boys, INXS, and The Cure as well as more modern acts such as MGMT and M83.

Over the past few years, has become a prominent fixture in Toronto’s psychedelic music scene. After multiple tours in the UK, playing festivals there and in North America, and opening for bands such as the Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Budos Band, Improvement Movement, and Delicate Steve, Pretty is ending the summer of 2026 with the release of their second studio album ‘Where You’ll Be When the World Is Gone’. With a modern psychedelic sound and lyrics which wander the labyrinth of contemporary existence with defiance, angst, and solidarity, Pretty uses the past in order to comprehend our present. As drummer Morgan Zych puts it, “Instead of chewing up nostalgia and retro pop culture, Pretty vomits up all of our digestive enzymes and degrades our influences in front of a live audience. This is the way of the mushroom. This is our way.”
