Today we're sharing Opus Art Collective's perfectly enchanting sculptural wall installation in Muskoka. This beautifully designed children's space comes to life with ceramic leaves, branches, and little forest friends, echoing the surrounding nature. Bringing the natural beauty of the Canadian wilderness indoors through ceramic art is a wonderful way to create an imaginative, calming space for children. Whimsical wilderness is magic in Muskoka. โœจ

Gillian Toliver's sculptures are show stoppers to say the least!

Her basswood sculptures are finished in yakisugi style, a striking method of preserving wood by charring it with fire. These are part of her Animalcules series, a name describing a minute, usually microscopic, organism, which are inspired by a series of folkloric tales from the Caribbean which share similar stories with Indigenous cultures around the world, giving the beings that inhabit the works a transglobal feel.

We have one sweet Toliver sculpture available on our website until the end of this week! To collect it visit opusartprojects.com/collections

Gillian Toliver is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Toronto. As an artist of mixed Scottish and Caribbean descent, her work often explores spaces existing in an in-between, a world caught in a moment of creation. In an honouring and opening of self, her work is a reaction to the absurdity, multiplicity and fluidity of being. Utilizing practices of labour, repetition and ritual, she navigates the condition of body and mind from systematic censorship through creating new forms in which to pour and bind self to. The creation of these new โ€˜hostโ€™ bodies is used in an act of reclaiming physical and mental environments.

We've got a big project that is nearing completion and we're so excited to see everything come together after years of curation and coordination.

Here's a project sneak peak of two Julya Hajnoczky photographs by Royce Howland's Print Studio. Julya roams the west coast in a Mobile Natural History Collection Laboratory creating art as she goes. She employs photo-based processes, often with unconventional cameras such as high resolution scanners or multi-aperture pinhole cameras that are slow and sometimes unwieldy, to create her work. She typically deploys these tools near the end of a project, after she spends time researching and exploring the ecosystem she's engaging with.

Hajnoczky has developed a large collection of photographs by artfully arranging, ethically gathered specimens on the glass of a scanner to create intimate portraits of ecosystems. Printed at very large scale, these pieces evoke a sense of wonder as the viewer can see incredible details normally invisible to the naked eye, while also offering the experience of being in a different relationship to these living beings, where the viewer is much smaller than the plants or mushrooms. Her delightful term for these subjects: charismatic microflora.

Studio visits are fun-times for art consultants! We get to see the whole view that inspires an artist's practice; the creation space and the surrounding environment, plus we get to gush about art with fellow art lovers.

A few weeks back we took a ride out to Prince Edward County to catch up with Jana Osterman and see where she makes her magic. She creates in the most adorable studio, in the most natural setting. The influence of her environment on her practice was obvious. The textures on organic forms, natural palettes, and mediums, all illustrated how closely the artwork is tied to the artist's lifestyle in the woods. Her studio is the epitome of romantic idealization of an artist's life, and gives her work an overabundance of authenticity; so delightful!

Jana's work can be found in our Spring Collection, Growth/Rebirth (visit www.opusartprojects.com/collections to purchase), and also in the charming village of Elora, in the Group Exhibition: โ€˜ReWildโ€™ from May 21 โ€“ July 10, 2026 at the Elora Centre for the Arts.

Happy International Women's Day!

Meaningful progress on gender equality requires deliberate actions and contributions from governments, institutions and individuals. When we invest in women's safety, rights and leadership, we strengthen societies as a whole. Safe and strong societies benefit everyone; especially artists.

Below are just a few of our favourite women artists from last year's Artist Project Art Fair in Toronto. It's one of the best fairs to discover local talent and it's coming up again soon! Looking forward to it!

Here are some lovely ceramic sculptures by Merete Rasmussen. ๐Ÿ’•

Known for her hand-built, monochromatic abstract sculptures with seductive matte finishes, Rasmussen's work is characterized by continuous, flowing surfaces, soft curves contrasted with sharp edges, and the exploration of positive and negative space. Her forms are often inspired by nature and mathematical constructions. They are an Opus favourite!

Happy Valentine's Day to all who celebrate ๐Ÿ’˜

Kostas Papakostas is a Greek multidisciplinary artist based in London, predominantly working with painting and video.

We love his swishy paintings and after reading his artist statement and learning that his work is about being present, we like it even more!

Artist Statement:
"Iโ€™m drawn to movement, flow, impermanence. I find meaning in things that never settle, in that constant state of flux.

I donโ€™t plan. I walk into the studio and let my awareness and emotions surface. Then I get to work. I place the canvas on the floor and move around it circling, leaning, stepping back, bending low.
Thatโ€™s how I get close physically, emotionally, fully.

I paint one brushstroke at a time. One gesture, start to finish. No corrections. No layering. If it fails, I wipe it away and start again. I wait for the moment when breath, timing and intention line up. Then I move. One stroke. Thatโ€™s the painting.

Iโ€™m not trying to make a statement or tell a story. Iโ€™m trying to be present. To let the painting break free from my control and find its own destiny. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesnโ€™t. But when it does, something real slips through.

Each brushstroke is a trace of an intuitive choreography, a record of a moment in time. They breathe, flow, stir.

My work comes from a desire to strip everything down and make space for something direct and honest."
