Your financial contribution will give you access to amazing new music and will directly support young up and coming artists because the funds go directly to their production and studio costs allowing the artists to make even more music. I’ve been kicking around this idea of a backcountry songwriting canoe trip. The idea won’t stop! Would any of you be interested in exploring your creativity in a wild setting?

MELISSA AUFOER MAUR
My ‘90s Rock Photographs
Photographer, musician, and writer Melissa Auf der Maur (born 1972, Montreal, Quebec) spent most of her twenties as bass player for Hole and, later, the Smashing Pumpkins.
From this unique vantage point, she documented her experiences, ultimately creating both an intimate self-portrait of a young artist living through the 1990s alternative music scene and a love letter to that last analogue decade.
Drawn from Auf der Maur’s personal archive, the photographs, objects, ephemera, and videos in this exhibition offer an insider’s view of the last era before smartphones and social media took hold of our lives. Against the backdrop of the corporatization of independent music and the rapid shift from analogue to digital technologies, her work is a reminder of a time when we forged profound connection through shared in-person experiences.
All photographs in the exhibition by Melissa Auf der Maur unless otherwise specified.
Texts by Auf der Maur are adapted from Even the Good Girls Will Cry: A ‘90s Rock Memoir (Da Capo, 2026) and Melissa Auf der Maur: My ‘90s Rock Photographs (AGO and DelMonico/D.AP., P.,2026). These texts are marked MAdMx.
Melissa Auf der Maur: My ‘90s Rock Photographs is organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
