To make room in the Studio for new works, we have selected twelve pieces for which we are seeking loving homes. These pieces are among our favourites and we may occasionally ask to borrow them back from you for future showings of Tom’s work, including our first gallery-show this November. Each of the piece
s up for grabs is acrylic on canvas, and was first created using a free pour technique employed by Tom as he recovered from a massive stroke at the tender age of thirty-two. Free of brush strokes, these paintings offer much license to the viewer’s imagination; while Tom is clear on what his intention was creating each of the works, we admit to being more interested in what visitors to the Studio see in each of the paintings. Art & Wellness is an ongoing conversation between Tom and award-winning arts Producer Jim LeFrancois, a collaborator for this project —- the two met during the pandemic. A shared belief that art can ground, heal and lift us up propels this and, we suspect, future projects forward. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Tom Jonez was born in Poland and moved here with his family at the age of seven. His family moved to a TO suburb and Tom struck out on his own quite early. Determined to live without help from his folks, whom he felt had done a lot already emgrating the family to Canada. He moved to Toronto in his teens, later heading to Montreal cutting his teeth on some formative and edgy life experience before heading back to the big smoke. Life and the city streets has afforded him a fair bit of both trouble and excitement over the years. It wasn’t until recently that his resolve has come into focus; Tom suffered a stroke at a truly young age of 32, requiring months of hospitalization and rehabilitation. It was at that moment that Tom turned, for the first time, to visual art as a means of expression. To help him heal and conjure up determination. In his art, Tom has discovered his knack for composition, and has learned that through art a difficult situation might be spun into a thing of beauty.
