Less than 2 weeks away! I hope you will join us Sunday, April 12th, 1-3pm at Homer Watson House & Gallery (1754 Old Mill Road, Kitchener, ON) for “An Ode to Phoebe”. Comments at 1:30pm. There are 8 freestanding textile sculptures set with my body of work on pollinators and the work of Phoebe Watson from 100 years ago. I gratefully acknowledge support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Occasionally, I overhear our members expressing anxiety regarding the appearance of the reverse side of their embroidery. This morning, I came across a blog article by Mary Corbet, a renowned embroiderer whom I hold in high esteem, in which she discusses the backs of embroidery pieces, addressing concerns and providing numerous reasons why the state of the back of our embroidery is not a significant issue. TGS member Tracey Lawko sent along the following invitation.

The next exhibition of “Reflections of Ourselves” will be just north of Toronto at King Heritage & Cultural Centre, King City, Jan 11 - Mar 1st, 2025. You are invited to the opening reception on January 11th at 1pm to see the 115 leaves celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Canadians and meet some of the leaf artists. TGS members Anne Condie, Diane Scott, Heather James, Helen O’Malley, Ietje Jackovich, Iryna Varabei, Janice Lunan, Karen Doak, Mary Lunney, Pia Kallas-Harvey, and Tracey Lawko have created leaves in honour of their heritages.

If you're looking for something colourful on cold, grey days, head to the AGO for the Pacita Abad exhibit. Her main works are a combination of painted fabric, appliqué, quilting, collage and trapunto. An extraordinary burst of colour. On until January 19th.
