Hundreds of origami butterflies are taking flight at Scarborough Museum now ❤️

A community installation that means the world to me 🫶🏼 thank you so much for sharing your stories with me and folding such pretty butterflies. If you left your butterflies with me in summer - you can find them at Scarborough Museum today :)

Ground murals is a looot of hard work and by now I am an expert in army crawls, kungfu splits, and yoga everything. Needless to say, I … don’t go to gym 🤭

But, this one too was very special ❤️ the last photo depicts a mini bouquet of autumn roses - from my new friend Judy, who lives right by the path. As I spent time on site, she treated us to her homemade cookies, gave us water when needed, and taught me a cool horticulture trick how to keep roses blooming year after year. As a tribute to Judy and her rose garden, I included two bright roses in the design. On the very last day I was painting them for her as a surprise, and right then she comes out and heads towards me holding something behind her and smiling. Guess what it was? A bouquet of her very own roses. A true “the gift of the magi” moment 😍 (I don’t know if you know this short novel, but it’s an English learning staple back home 😋)

A year later, when I come back to touch the mural this year, she even gets to meet my dad who accompanied me and treated us with her homemade fudgecicles 😍

To me these moments are why I keep doing what I do 🫶🏼❤️

“Love, Home, and Hope” 2025

Perched high above the city, this artwork depicts a pair of swallows — birds that have long chosen the rooftops of human dwellings as places to build their fragile nests. Across cultures, swallows are messengers of hope, new beginnings, good fortune, and prosperity. Their annual return signals the arrival of spring, a season of warmth, growth, and renewal. Known to return to the same nesting place year after year, swallows also embody enduring love, loyalty, and the values of family.

In this piece, the swallows’ black-and-white linework conveys elegance and permanence, while the fruit blossoms root the scene in the universal beauty of renewal. Behind them, a golden circle evokes the sun, eternal source of light and life, radiating outward as a blessing.

Together, these elements celebrate life, fresh beginnings, and the joy of return — to love, to home, and to hope.
